Upper limits on stray force noise for LISA

open access: yes, 2003
We have developed a torsion pendulum facility for LISA gravitational reference sensor ground testing that allows us to put significant upper limits on residual stray forces exerted by LISA-like position sensors on a representative test mass and to ...

Insights Into the Antigenic Repertoire of Unclassified Synaptic Antibodies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective We sought to characterize the sixth most common finding in our neuroimmunological laboratory practice (tissue assay‐observed unclassified neural antibodies [UNAs]), combining protein microarray and phage immunoprecipitation sequencing (PhIP‐Seq). Methods Patient specimens (258; 133 serums; 125 CSF) meeting UNA criteria were profiled;

Strain Gauge Neural Network-Based Estimation as an Alternative for Force and Torque Sensor Measurements in Robot Manipulators

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
When a robotic manipulator interacts with its environment, the end-effector forces need to be measured to assess if a task has been completed successfully and for safety reasons. Traditionally, these forces are either measured directly by a 6-dimensional

Ultrasensitive torque detection with an optically levitated nanorotor

open access: yes, 2019
Torque sensors such as the torsion balance enabled the first determination of the gravitational constant by Cavendish and the discovery of Coulomb's law. Torque sensors are also widely used in studying small-scale magnetism, the Casimir effect, and other

Current Tracking Adaptive Control of Brushless DC Motors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
In this paper, the current tracking for Brushless Direct Current motors is approached considering uncertainty in the parameters of the motor's model. An adaptive control scheme to compensate electrical parameters uncertainty is proposed without requiring any knowledge of the mechanical parameters.

Analysis and Design Optimization of a Compact and Lightweight Joint Torque Sensor for Space Manipulators

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2013
This paper describes the development of a compact and lightweight joint torque sensor for space manipulators. Space manipulators with torque sensors can not only apply force control approach to more precise and more dexterous space missions, but also ...

Active Return-to-Center Control Based on Torque and Angle Sensors for Electric Power Steering Systems

open access: yesSensors, 2018
This paper presents a complete control strategy of the active return-to-center (RTC) control for electric power steering (EPS) systems. We first establish the mathematical model of the EPS system and analyze the source and influence of the self-aligning ...

Determination of the hydrodynamic performance of marine propellers using fibre Bragg gratings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Downloading of the abstract is permitted for personal use only. A critical aspect in the design of marine propellers is their hydrodynamic performance which, when evaluated experimentally, requires a number of parameters to be monitored at the same time,

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.
