The pharmacodynamics of torsemide in patients with congestive heart failure

Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1994
The pharmacodynamics of torsemide (a new loop diuretic of the pyridine sulfonylurea class) was studied in 16 subjects who had compensated congestive heart failure and had been receiving stable diuretic therapy. Oral doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg were studied by use of a randomized crossover design.

Torsemide in Edema Associated with Chronic Kidney Disease

Journal of The Association of Physicians of India
Torsemide is a loop diuretic used to manage edema associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and acute kidney injury (AKI). It acts by inhibiting sodium and chloride ions reabsorption in the ascending limb of the loop of Henle, thereby increasing urine output and reducing fluid accumulation.

Bioavailability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of torsemide in patients with cirrhosis

Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1993
The bioavailability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of torsemide (10 mg orally and intravenously) were determined in a randomized crossover clinical trial with 12 patients with ascites caused by cirrhosis. Torsemide was rapidly absorbed with a bioavailability of 96.3% (confidence interval, 84% to 109%).

Dose-response study of intravenous torsemide in congestive heart failure

American Heart Journal, 1994
In a double-blind dose-response study, 49 patients with New York Heart Association functional class III or IV heart failure were randomized to receive a single intravenous dose of 5, 10, or 20 mg torsemide or 40 mg furosemide. Torsemide produced dose-related decreases in body weight and increases in sodium and chloride excretion and urine volume.

EFFECT OF FOOD ON THE PHARMACOKINETICS AND PHARMACODYNAMICS OF TORSEMIDE

American Journal of Therapeutics, 1995
The effect of food on the bioavailability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of oral torsemide was examined in a group of 14 healthy male volunteers. Administration of torsemide with a standard high-fat, high-carbohydrate breakfast resulted in a decrease in absorption rate (fed: C(max) 988 plus minus 269 ng ml(minus sign1), T(max) 1.50 plus minus ...

Fixed-dose Combination of Torsemide and Mineralocorticoid Receptor Antagonists

Journal of The Association of Physicians of India
The combination of torsemide and spironolactone presents a promising approach to managing conditions such as edema and hypertension. Torsemide, a loop diuretic, enhances diuresis by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the kidneys, while spironolactone, a potassium-sparing diuretic and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA), complements this effect ...

Curbside Consult Torsemide versus Furosemide: Pharmacological Distinctions and Clinical Implications

Cardiology in Review
Furosemide and torsemide are both loop diuretics that have widespread use to manage fluid excess in heart failure (HF), chronic kidney disease, and secondary conditions. These drugs work through inhibition of the Na+-K+-2Cl− cotransporter in the Henle’s loop, thus bringing about diuresis and symptomatic relief.
