Metabolomics of potential contenders conferring antioxidant property to varied polar and non-polar solvent extracts of Edgaria darjeelingensis C.B.Clarke

open access: yesBulletin of the National Research Centre, 2021
Background The Himalaya hotspot, habitat to numerous indigenous species, harbours an endemic and endangered, cucurbit climber Herpetospermum darjeelingense (C.B.Clarke) H.Schaef. & S.S.Renner [Edgaria darjeelingensis C.B.Clarke]. Seeds of this plant have

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Influence of vascular plant photosynthetic rate on CH4 emission from peat monoliths from southern boreal Sweden

open access: yes, 1999
Peat monoliths taken from a boreal peatland system were incubated at two different light intensities to investigate the effect of the photosynthetic rate of vascular plants (Eriophorum angustifolium) on net CH4 emission. The experimental set-up consisted

A simple protocol for estimating the acute toxicity of unresolved polar compounds from field-weathered oils [PDF]

open access: yes
Crude oil spilled at sea is chemically altered through environmental processes such as dissolution, biodegradation, and photodegradation. Transformation of hydrocarbons to oxygenated species increases water-solubility.

Chemical composition of barks from Quercus faginea trees and characterization of their lipophilic and polar extracts. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
The bark from Quercus faginea mature trees from two sites was chemically characterized for the first time. The barks showed the following composition: ash 14.6%, total extractives 13.2%, suberin 2.9% and lignin 28.2%.

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Different Processing Practices and the Frying Life of Refined Canola Oil

open access: yesFoods, 2019
Refined expeller-pressed (RCanO-I and RCanO-II) and expeller-pressed and solvent-extracted blended (RCanO-III and RCanO-IV) canola oils were compared to determine the effect of processing (extraction) practice on the frying life of canola oil.
