The RNA of Toxoplasma gondii

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1970
SummaryIsolation and characterization of toxoplasma RNA revealed a ribosomal species which could be easily differentiated from mammalian host cell RNA. A species of transfer RNA also appeared to differ from that of the host cell. Extracellular toxoplasma were capable of incorporating 3H-uridine into the major components of their RNA.

Prenatal Toxoplasma gondii [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2011
(See the article by Boyer et al, on pages 1081–9.) One of the first lessons regarding congenital infections taught to third-year medical students on obstetrics and reinforced during their pediatric rotations are the variety and pathogenesis of perinatal viral and parasitic infections that can affect pregnant women and their fetuses. From the time of

Toxoplasma gondii

open access: yesThe Biomedical & Life Sciences Collection
Only felids shed fecal stages (oocysts) contaminating pastures, food, and water. Other warm-blooded vertebrates serve as paratenic hosts and are infected ingesting oocysts or other hosts containing tissue stages (bradyzoites). Pigs, sheep, goats, and chickens reared with access to oocyst contaminated soil produce the meats most likely to transmit the ...

Detection of Toxoplasma gondii copro-prevalence by polymerase chain reaction using repetitive 529 bp gene in feces of pet cats (Felis catus) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2018
Aim: The aim of this research was to determine the copro-prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with repetitive 529 bp gene and to construct the phylogenetic tree of Toxoplasma oocyst from pet cats in Yogyakarta ...

Toxoplasma gondii and Schizophrenia

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2003
Recent epidemiologic studies indicate that infectious agents may contribute to some cases of schizophrenia. In animals, infections with Toxoplasma gondii can alter behavior and neurotransmitter function. In humans, acute infection with T. gondii can produce psychotic symptoms similar to those displayed by persons with schizophrenia. Since 1953, a total

Phosphatidylinositol 3-monophosphate is involved in Toxoplasma apicoplast biogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Apicomplexan parasites cause devastating diseases including malaria and toxoplasmosis. They harbour a plastid-like, non-photosynthetic organelle of algal origin, the apicoplast, which fulfils critical functions for parasite survival.
