Hypergravity affects cell traction forces of fibroblasts [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2020
ABSTRACTCells sense and react on changes of the mechanical properties of their environment, and likewise respond to external mechanical stress applied to them. Whether the gravitational field, as overall body force, modulates cellular behavior is however unclear.

Traction forces generated by locomoting keratocytes. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of cell biology, 1994
Traction forces produced by moving fibroblasts have been observed as distortions in flexible substrata including wrinkling of thin, silicone rubber films. Traction forces generated by fibroblast lamellae were thought to represent the forces required to move the cell forwards.

Substrate Deformation Predicts Neuronal Growth Cone Advance [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Although pulling forces have been observed in axonal growth for several decades, their underlying mechanisms, absolute magnitudes, and exact roles are not well understood.

Force mapping during the formation and maturation of cell adhesion sites with multiple optical tweezers. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Focal contacts act as mechanosensors allowing cells to respond to their biomechanical environment. Force transmission through newly formed contact sites is a highly dynamic process requiring a stable link between the intracellular cytoskeleton and the ...

Reproducibility of Traction Force in Traction Equipment.

open access: yesRigakuryoho Kagaku, 1998

Spatiotemporally Super-Resolved Volumetric Traction Force Microscopy [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters, 2019
Quantification of mechanical forces is a major challenge across biomedical sciences. Yet such measurements are essential to understanding the role of biomechanics in cell regulation and function. Traction force microscopy remains the most broadly applied force probing technology but typically restricts itself to single-plane two-dimensional ...
