Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A Simple Model of Rail Infrastructure Capacity and Costs. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The recent White Paper on "New Opportunities for the Railways" (Cm 2012, 1992) proposes that British Rail's responsibilities for operation and infrastructure will be separated.

Dynamic Risk Assessment for Vehicles of Higher Automation Levels by Deep Learning

open access: yes, 2018
Vehicles of higher automation levels require the creation of situation awareness. One important aspect of this situation awareness is an understanding of the current risk of a driving situation.

Train Headway Models and Carrying Capacity of Super-Speed Maglev System

open access: yesJSME International Journal Series C, 2004
Train headway models are established by analyzing the operation of the Transrapid Super-speed Maglev System (TSMS). The variation in the minimum allowable headway for trains of different speeds and consists is studied under various operational constraints.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Integrating driving and traffic simulators for the study of railway level crossing safety interventions: a methodology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Safety at Railway Level Crossings (RLXs) is an important issue within the Australian transport system. Crashes at RLXs involving road vehicles in Australia are estimated to cost $10 million each year.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

An Extended Space-Time Network With Explicit Incompatibility Modelling for High-Speed Railway Timetabling

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation
High-speed railway systems face increasing operational challenges due to rising passenger demand and complex infrastructure constraints. However, traditional space-time network models for train timetabling may lack detailed representation of real-world ...
