Hypocholesterolemia in liver and cardiovascular disease: Friend or foe?

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, Volume 300, Issue 5, Page 572-589, November 2026.
Abstract Hypocholesterolemia is perceived as benign given its association with lower cardiovascular risk. However, genetic and epidemiological evidence indicates that persistently low levels of low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL‐C) and apolipoprotein B (ApoB) arise from distinct biological mechanisms with different hepatic implications ...

Thermoresponsive Liquid Crystalline Polymer Coatings Programmed by Field‐Induced Topological Defects for Tunable Optical and Topographical Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 80, 5 October 2026.
Resonant standing waves generate large‐area lattices of liquid‐crystal topological defects that are permanently encoded into polymer coatings by photopolymerization. The preserved director architecture produces thermally reconfigurable surface topographies while maintaining programmable optical functionality, demonstrating a scalable strategy for ...

Ionizable Lipid‐Dependent Optimization of Steroid Lipid Nanoparticles With Tunable Immunomodulatory Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 56, 8 October 2026.
A novel engineering strategy that establishes material design principles for incorporating anti‐inflammatory steroids into lipid nanoparticles to reduce LNP‐induced inflammation while retaining mRNA delivery. Results are validated in vitro and in three animal models of inflammation and autoimmunity in vivo.

Optimized Lipid Nanoparticles with Tail‐Modified Ionizable Lipids for Safer mRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 55, 5 October 2026.
Systematic engineering of hydrophobic tail architecture in vitamin B5‐derived ionizable lipids establishes a comprehensive structure–activity relationship framework for mRNA delivery. Combined lipidtail and formulation optimization identifies TM1‐OPT3‐C, a lipid nanoparticle platform that improves efficacy–safety balance through efficient mRNA delivery,

Targeting Microglial Transcriptional Reprogramming as a Therapy Strategy for Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesBioEssays, Volume 48, Issue 10, October 2026.
Recent human genetic studies highlight the critical role of microglial pathways in Alzheimer's disease, with risk loci enriched in microglia‐specific genes such as SPI1 and MEF2C. Dysregulation of these transcription factors contributes to disease pathogenesis.

Modulation of Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress via CEBPB: A Potential Molecular Link to Therapeutic Action in Substance Use Disorders

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 10, October 2026.
We identified endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress modulation as a convergent transcription signature across fentanyl and multiple substance use disorder (SUD)‐relevant treatments. Key ER stress genes, including TRIB3, XBP1, and DDIT3, were downregulated, while CEBPB emerged as a shared upstream regulator linked to ER stress–related proteins.
