Transferrin saturation, plasma iron turnover, and transferrin uptake in normal humans [PDF]
Abstract The relationship between plasma iron, transferrin saturation, and plasma iron turnover was studied in 53 normal subjects whose transferrin saturation varied between 17% and 57%, in 25 normal subjects whose transferrin saturation was increased by iron infusion to between 67% and 100%, and in five subjects with early untreated ...

Developmental Trends in Serum Iron, Transferrin, and Transferrin Saturation From Birth to 12 Months. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Aim There is a need for updated reference intervals for iron status biomarkers during infancy. This study aimed to investigate reference interval trends and diurnal variation of iron, transferrin, and transferrin saturation in infants subjected to delayed cord clamping at birth (DCC).

[The coefficient of saturation of iron in transferrin].
Theoretical iron fixation capacity of transferrin (FCT) can be calculated on its immunochemical titration: (FCT (mumol/l = transferrin (g/l) x 25). Today, its reckoning is more advisable to serum total iron binding capacity measurement. The authors studied the effects of this new proceeding upon usual values interval of transferrin saturation (i.e ...

Elevated Transferrin Saturation and Risk of Diabetes [PDF]
OBJECTIVE We tested the hypothesis that elevated transferrin saturation is associated with an increased risk of any form of diabetes, as well as type 1 or type 2 diabetes separately. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We used two general population studies,

Chelator-facilitated removal of iron from transferrin: Relevance to combined chelation therapy [PDF]
Current iron chelation therapy consists primarily of DFO (desferrioxamine), which has to be administered via intravenous infusion, together with deferiprone and deferasirox, which are orally-active chelators.

Effect of transferrin saturation on iron delivery in rats
Studies were carried out in rats to evaluate the release of iron from monoferric and diferric transferrin. Isoelectric focusing was carried out on plasma tagged at low and high saturations, and it was shown that these represented primarily monoferric and diferric transferrin, respectively.

Transferrin Saturation and Mortality [PDF]
To the Editor: Ellervik and colleagues (1) recently reported a positive association between transferrin saturation (TS) and mortality. Several questions arise from this observation: Is the association due to all causes of iron overload or to hereditary hemochromatosis only? Does the study underestimate the true association?

Niosomes and polymeric chitosan based vesicles bearing transferrin and glucose ligands for drug targeting [PDF]
PURPOSE: To prepare polymeric vesicles and niosomes bearing glucose or transferrin ligands for drug targeting. METHODS: A glucose-palmitoyl glycol chitosan (PGC) conjugate was synthesised and glucose-PGC polymeric vesicles prepared by sonication of ...

Elevated Serum Transferrin Saturation and Mortality [PDF]
A large proportion of US adults have elevated transferrin saturation, an indicator of a predisposition for iron overload. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between elevated serum transferrin saturation and mortality. This cohort study was conducted using data from the First Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1 (1971-1974 ...
