Transferrin saturation with intravenous irons: An in vitro study [PDF]
Iron deficiency anemia in chronic kidney disease is commonly treated with one of three intravenous irons-iron dextran, iron sucrose, or iron gluconate. Substantial pharmacologic differences between drugs exist, but their ability to saturate transferrin has not been compared.

Transferrin saturation and risk of cancer.
American Journal of Epidemiology, 1995The authors examined the hypothesis that relatively high levels of transferrin saturation increase the risk of cancer. They studied a cohort of prepaid health plan members whose transferrin saturation levels were measured during the period 1969-1971 and who were followed for cancer through 1990.

Total Mortality by Elevated Transferrin Saturation in Patients With Diabetes [PDF]
OBJECTIVE It is not known to what extent iron overload predicts prognosis in patients with diabetes after diagnosis or whether iron overload is a risk factor independent of the HFE genotype. We investigated total and cause-specific mortality according to increased transferrin saturation (≥50 vs.

AbstractBackground Cytotoxic agents can be targeted successfully to cancer cells. The efficacy of such novel and potent anticancer strategies may be influenced by variables of iron metabolism. Methods The in vitro cytotoxicity against glioma cells of transferrin (Tf)‐based targeted toxins was compared with that of α‐transferrin receptor (TfR ...
