Transferrin in Disease II: Defects in the Regulation of Transferrin Saturation With Iron Contribute to Susceptibility to Infection

Journal of Urology, 1984
Patients with leukemia were found to have a high percentage of saturation of their serum transferrin with iron to an extent only rarely observed with other malignancies. This was associated with a reduced ability of their serum to inhibit the growth of a test strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Decreased transferrin and increased transferrin saturation in sera of women with preeclampsia: Implications for oxidative stress

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1996
The concerted iron-binding antioxidant activity of transferrin and ceruloplasmin decreases with increasing transferrin saturation by iron. We examined interactions between serum iron and iron-binding capacity and concentrations of the lipid peroxidation metabolite malondialdehyde in normal and preeclamptic pregnancies.

Analysis of Familial Tendencies in Transferrin Saturation in a Korean Population

Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 2015
Despite the high transferrin saturation (TS) level in Koreans, the p.Cys282Tyr and p.His63Asp mutations are markedly less frequent than in Caucasians. We aimed to determine TS levels and their familial tendencies in a Korean population using nationwide data from the Fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES V-1 2010).A total

Comment j'interprète la saturation de la transferrine [How i interpret the saturation of transferrin]

2017

Transferrin Saturation: A Body Iron Biomarker.

Advances in clinical chemistry, 2017
Iron is an essential element for several metabolic pathways and physiological processes. The maintenance of iron homeostasis within the human body requires a dynamic and highly sophisticated interplay of several proteins, as states of iron deficiency or excess are both potentially deleterious to health.
