Purification and properties of dihydroxyacetone synthase from the methylotrophic yeast Candida boidinii [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The international Testicular Cancer Consortium (TECAC) combined five published genome-wide association studies of testicular germ cell tumor (TGCT; 3,558 cases and 13,970 controls) to identify new susceptibility loci.

Biochemical and haematological aspects of ethanol metabolism in humans : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Biochemistry at Massey University, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Macrocytosis or raised mean cell volume (MCV) (which as measured by the Coulter S counter) is one of the results of alcohol abuse. There is a need to identify (chronic) alcoholics by laboratory tests.

Artificial Photosynthesis Would Unify the Electricity-Carbohydrate-Hydrogen Cycle for Sustainability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Sustainable development requires balanced integration of four basic human needs – air (O2/CO2), water, food, and energy. To solve key challenges, such as CO2 fixation, electricity storage, food production, transportation fuel production, water ...

Combination of a UPO‐Based Epoxidation With a Subsequent Ring‐Opening Reaction for the Synthesis of Amino Alcohols

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 5, 13 March 2026.
The synthesis of aromatic amino alcohols via a combination of an unspecific peroxygenase‐catalysed reaction, oxyfunctionalization, and addition of selected nucleophiles and electrophiles in a highly atom‐efficient manner was investigated. This study presents the design to aim for an atom‐efficient chemo‐enzymatic synthesis route towards aromatic amino ...

Metabolomic analysis of human oral cancer cells with adenylate kinase 2 or phosphorylate glycerol kinase 1 inhibition. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The purpose of this study was to use liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) with XCMS for a quantitative metabolomic analysis of UM1 and UM2 oral cancer cells after knockdown of metabolic enzyme adenylate kinase 2 (AK2) or phosphorylate glycerol

Protein Language Model‐Guided Engineering of a 2,3‐Butanediol Dehydrogenase for the Enantioselective Synthesis of Cyclic α‐Hydroxy Ketones

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 18, 27 March 2026.
A (2R,3R)‐butanediol dehydrogenase from Bacillus subtilis (BsBDH) is engineered for the enantioselective synthesis of 2‐hydroxycyclohexanone. A PASS computational design strategy is proposed to enhance the thermostability of BsBDH. Moreover, ESM‐1v combined with ISM is utilized for enhancing and inverting its stereoselectivity.

Severe thiamine deficiency in eastern Baltic cod (Gadus morhua).

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
The eastern Baltic cod (Gadus morhua) population has been decreasing in the Baltic Sea for at least 30 years. Condition indices of the Baltic cod have decreased, and previous studies have suggested that this might be due to overfishing, predation, lower ...

Biophysical characterization of the inactivation of E. coli transketolase by aqueous co-solvents

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Transketolase (TK) has been previously engineered, using semi-rational directed evolution and substrate walking, to accept increasingly aliphatic, cyclic, and then aromatic substrates.

Metabolic transcription analysis of engineered Escherichia coli strains that overproduce L-phenylalanine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Background The rational design of L-phenylalanine (L-Phe) overproducing microorganisms has been successfully achieved by combining different genetic strategies such as inactivation of the phosphoenolpyruvate: phosphotransferase transport system (PTS) and
