A 46-year-old man developed a pupil-involving incomplete third cranial nerve palsy after undergoing transsphenoidal resection of a pituitary macroadenoma. A CT scan 1 week later revealed postoperative changes, with no new mass lesion, hemorrhage, or orbital fracture.

Transsphenoidal meningoencephalocele in adults
Transsphenoidal meningoencephalocele is a rare congenital anomaly, reported only in 14 adult patients. It may be subdivided into intrasphenoidal, extending into the sphenoid sinus, and true transsphenoidal, traversing the floor of the sinus and protruding into the nasal cavity or nasopharynx. We present the eighth case of true transsphenoidal ...

Pituitary, 2008
Transsphenoidal surgery has evolved much over nearly 100 years. Initially operations were performed often without any input from endocrinology colleagues, and without preoperative imaging, operative magnification and illumination. Advances in the understanding of the biology of pituitary tumours, close co-operation between endocrinologists, surgeons ...

Abstract TRANSSPHENOIDAL MICROSURGERY IS a well-established neurosurgical procedure that has become the standard of care in the management of the majority of pituitary tumors and a select group of other sellar lesions. The safety of the procedure depends on the surgeon's adherence to certain anatomic concepts.

Endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery
Journal of Neuro-Oncology, 2001Endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery was developed under a minimally invasive surgical strategy. This endonasal transsphenoidal endoscopy eliminates a sublabial or transfixional incision, the use of a transsphenoidal retractor and any nasal packing.Reported are 160 patients who had undergone endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery from 1993 to 1999.

Transsphenoidal microsurgery for craniopharyngioma
World Neurosurgery, 1992We report on our series of 32 craniopharyngiomas operated on by the transsphenoidal route since 1983. In 15 of 19 patients (79%) with primary transsphenoidal surgery and in 8 of 13 patients (62%) with a transsphenoidal approach following previous surgical procedures, the craniopharyngioma was totally removed.
