Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Serum Myonectin Levels Are Positively Associated With Physical Function and Lower Frailty‐Related Limitation in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

Extensions of transversal matroids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
En aquest treball s'introdueixen les principals nocions de teoria de matroides, matroides transversals i extensions d'un sol element. El nostre primer objectiu és estudiar quines extensions d'una matroide transversal són també transversals. En particular,

Modular Design of Waveguide Bandpass Filters With Improved Stopband and High Selectivity

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Microwaves, 2023
A class of waveguide bandpass filters (BPFs) with parallel coupling topology is proposed by stacking rectangular cavities. Compared with transversal filters, each layer comprises more than one cavity, and these cavities are cascaded with electric or ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Optimal design of cap screw thread runout for transversal and axial loads [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
peer reviewedt The presented work is focused on a design of a new thread runout of screws and bolts subjected by transversal loads. These types of loads can occur in a normal service of bolt connection and they can lead to a failure.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

From Constructionist to Constructivist A.I. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The development of artificial intelligence systems has to date been largely one of manual labor. This Constructionist approach to A.I. has resulted in a diverse set of isolated solutions to relatively small problems.

Tuning experiential activities’ constraints influences student engagement and focus on transversal skills

open access: yesFrontiers in Education
IntroductionExperiential learning is well-suited for developing transversal skills; however, poor understanding of pedagogical conditions for skill development reduces the contributions of such approaches in engineering education. This paper examines how

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
