On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Flexure of thick orthotropic plates by exponential shear deformation theory

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
In the present paper, a variationally consistent exponential shear deformation theory taking into account transverse shear deformation effect is presented for the flexural analysis of thick orthotropic plates.

Analytical solution for vibration and buckling of functionally graded sandwich beams using various quasi-3D theories

open access: yes, 2015
This paper presents an analytical solution for vibration and buckling of functionally graded (FG) sandwich beams using various quasi-3D theories, which consider effects of both shear and normal deformation.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Mixing and Isosurface Geometry in Turbulent Transverse Jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Mixing and the geometry of jet-fluid-concentration level sets in turbulent transverse jets were experimentally studied. Jet-fluid concentration fields were measured with laser-induced fluorescence and digital imaging techniques for Reynolds numbers ...

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Comparison of various refined beam theories for the bending and free vibration analysis of thick beams

open access: yesApplied and Computational Mechanics, 2011
In this paper, unified shear deformation theory is used to analyze simply supported thick isotropic beams for the transverse displacement, axial bending stress, transverse shear stress and natural frequencies.

Stiffness Matrix for Haunched Members With Including Effect of Transverse Shear Deformation [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2005
This study includes the derivation of the stiffness matrix for a haunched member using the simple bending theory. The derived stiffness matrix covers most possible geometric shapes for haunched members under different loading cases and combinations with ...
