Flexural analysis of cross-ply laminated beams using layerwise trigonometric shear deformation theory

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
In the present work, a layerwise trigonometric shear deformation theory is used for the analysis of two layered (90/0) cross ply laminated simply supported and fixed beams subjected to sinusoidal load.

Stress Resultant Based Elasto-Viscoplastic Thick Shell Model

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2012
The current paper presents enhancement introduced to the elasto-viscoplastic shell formulation, which serves as a theoretical base for the finite element code EPSA (Elasto-Plastic Shell Analysis) [1–3].

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

Influence of Geometric Design on Mechanical Performance of Auxetic Metastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Strategic geometric reinforcement transforms auxetic performance. This study evaluates 3D‐printed arrowhead metastructures, revealing that a modified design with local ring reinforcement suppresses premature failure to achieve superior energy absorption and structural efficiency.

Stress Analysis of Laminated Composite and Sandwich Beams using a Novel Shear and Normal Deformation Theory

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
A novel Normal and Shear Deformation Theory (NSDT) for analysis of laminated composite and sandwich beams, taking into account shear deformation as well as normal deformation, is developed. The paper investigates flexural behaviors of thick laminated and

A refined element-based Lagrangian shell element for geometrically nonlinear analysis of shell structures

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2015
For the solution of geometrically nonlinear analysis of plates and shells, the formulation of a nonlinear nine-node refined first-order shear deformable element-based Lagrangian shell element is presented.

Structural integrity of engineering components made of functionally graded materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Functionally graded materials (FGM) are composite materials with microstructure gradation optimized for the functioning of engineering components. For the case of fibrous composites, the fibre density is varied spatially, leading to variable material ...

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

On composite shell models with a piecewise linear warping function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A multilayered shell model accounting for a piecewise linear (i.e. zig-zag) distribution of displacements through the laminate thickness is discussed.
