Post-Acute Alterations in the Axonal Cytoskeleton after Traumatic Axonal Injury

Journal of Neurotrauma, 2003
All previous analyses of axonal responses to traumatic axonal injury (TAI) have described the ultrastructure of changes in the cytoskeleton and axolemma within 6 h of injury. In the present study we tested the hypothesis that there are, in addition, ultrastructural pathological changes up to 1 week after injury.

Diagnostic Approach to Traumatic Axonal Injury of the Optic Radiation in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, 2019
Abstract We describe a diffusion tensor tractography–based diagnostic approach to traumatic axonal injury of the optic radiation in a patient who showed visual field defect after mild traumatic brain injury. A 43-yr-old female patient experienced head trauma during a motor vehicle accident.

The Processes Involved in Traumatic Axonal Injury

1997
Brain injury can be viewed as several clinical syndromes that result from various combinations of neural or vascular events occurring after mechanical distortion of the head. The primary traumatic events appear to be mediated by four basic mechanisms, the consequences of which are not instantaneous. Thus, brain injury involves processes that are set in

Modelling organelle transport after traumatic axonal injury

Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, 2013
This paper is motivated by recent experimental research (Tang-Schomer et al. 2012) on the formation of periodic varicosities in axons after traumatic brain injury (TBI). TBI leads to the formation of undulated distortions in the axons due to their dynamic deformation. These distortions result in the breakage of some microtubules (MTs) near the peaks of
