De Novo Assembly and Comparative Mitochondrial Genome Analysis of Three Salt Marsh Specialist Ground Beetle Species (Coleoptera: Carabidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
We assembled and analyzed the complete mitochondrial genomes of 10 individuals from the salt marsh ground beetles Bembidion minimum, Dicheirotrichus gustavii, and Pogonus chalceus, revealing the conserved insect gene order, the typical set of 37 mitochondrial genes, and a pronounced AT‐bias (~80%).

Genetic landscape of patients with atypical absence status epilepticus: A systematic review

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, Volume 11, Issue 4, Page 1111-1125, August 2026.
Abstract Atypical absence status epilepticus (AASE) is a rare subtype of nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE), characterized by clouding of consciousness and continuous or fluctuating epileptiform activity, generally at a frequency below 3 Hz. Only sparse literature exists on the genetic conditions associated with it.

Beyond seizures: A multidimensional approach to non‐seizure issues in Lennox–Gastaut syndrome. Insights from Italian experts

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, Volume 11, Issue 4, Page 1075-1094, August 2026.
Abstract Non‐seizure issues (NSIs), including cognition, behavior/psychiatric symptoms, adaptive and social functioning, sleep, autonomic, and motor impairments, often shape day‐to‐day outcomes in Lennox–Gastaut syndrome (LGS) more than seizures, yet clinicians lack LGS‐specific, feasible assessment pathways.

The gut microbiome organ

open access: yesiMeta, Volume 5, Issue 4, August 2026.
The gut microbiome can be conceptualized as a distributed organ‐like functional system with spatially structured organization, broad biochemical capacity, and continuous bidirectional communication with the host. By transforming dietary, host‐derived, and environmental substrates into bioactive metabolites with endocrine‐like, immunomodulatory, and ...
