The digestion of dietary triacylglycerols
Progress in Lipid Research, 2004Dietary triacylglycerols (TAGs) are the major lipid components in the human diet and they are carriers of energy as well as important fatty acids. Many factors affect the digestion and absorption of TAGs. Evidence is accumulating that, in addition to the overall fatty acid profile, the TAG structure and the species composition are of importance when ...

Mobilisation of triacylglycerol stores
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids, 2000Triacylglycerol (TAG) is an energy dense substance which is stored by several body tissues, principally adipose tissue and the liver. Utilisation of stored TAG as an energy source requires its mobilisation from these depots and transfer into the blood plasma.

Myocardial triacylglycerol metabolism
Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, 2013Myocardial triacylglycerol (TAG) constitutes a highly dynamic fatty acid (FA) storage pool that can be used for an energy reserve in the cardiomyocyte. However, derangements in myocardial TAG metabolism and accumulation are commonly associated with cardiac disease, suggesting an important role of intramyocardial TAG turnover in the regulation of ...

The metabolism of structured triacylglycerols
Progress in Lipid Research, 2005The triacylglycerol (TAG) structure in addition to the overall fatty acid profile is of importance when considering the nutritional effect of a dietary fat. This review aims at summarizing our current knowledge of the digestion, absorption, uptake, and transport of structured TAGs, with particular emphasis on the following aspects: gastric emptying ...

Effect of dietary medium chain triacylglycerols on plasma triacylglycerol levels in horses
Archiv für Tierernaehrung, 2001The hypothesis tested was that the feeding of medium chain triacylglycerols (MCT) to horses would raise the level of plasma triacylglycerols by increasing the availability of glucose as lipogenic substrate, implying that the MCT effect would be greater with glucose in the diet instead of cellulose.

The cytoplasmic triacylglycerol (TG) storage pool of isolated hepatocytes was labelled in order to evaluate its incorporation into very low density lipoproteins (VLDL). Rats were injected with [1-14C]oleate 2 min prior to surgery and cell incubations began 90-100 min thereafter.

Triacylglycerol metabolism and triacylglycerol lipase activities of cultured human skin fibroblasts
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1980The relative contribution of lipoproteins and free fatty acid to the cellular triacylglycerol content of cultured human fibroblasts was tested. Fibroblasts accumulated triacylglycerol in proportion to the molar ratio of free fatty acid (oleic acid) to albumin in the medium.

Tgl3p, Tgl4p and Tgl5p are the major triacylglycerol lipases of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae catalyzing degradation of triacylglycerols stored in lipid droplets. Previous results from our laboratory (Athenstaedt and Daum, 2005, J. Biol. Chem. 280, 37301-37309) demonstrated that a yeast strain lacking all three triacylglycerol lipases accumulates ...

Intrasample variability of intramyocellular triacylglycerol
Lipids, 2006AbstractIntrasample variability of intramyocellular triacylglycerol (imcTG)in the skeletal muscle of rats has been examined. Aliquoting after homogenization of muscle samples reduced imcTG variability considerably compared with aliquoting before homogenization. The results suggested that skeletal muscle samples be homogenized before aliquoting in order
