Nutritional Endocrinology in Dairy Cattle: Roles of the Ghrelin and Glucagon‐Like Peptide Axis in Metabolic Adaptation and Developmental Programming

open access: yesAnimal Science Journal, Volume 97, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
ABSTRACT High‐producing dairy cattle experience profound metabolic transitions during the periparturient and periweaning periods that influence health and long‐term productivity. In ruminants, feed intake and metabolic adaptation reflect coordinated interactions among rumen fermentation, hepatic oxidative feedback, and gastrointestinal hormones.

A Glycolipid‐Like Biosurfactant Molecule Derived From an Exophiala spinifera Strain With Significant Antibiofilm, Antifungal, and Antiquorum Sensing Activities

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
A biosurfactant‐producing fungal strain, Exophiala spinifera CSF123, was isolated from cashew oil‐contaminated soil. Internal transcribed spacer sequencing followed by phylogenetic analysis revealed that the isolated fungus shared 98.42% similarity with E. spinifera CBS66.76. The biosurfactant molecule, named ES‐414, produced by the fungus was purified

Highly Efficient Biodegradation of Postconsumer Polylactic Acid Waste: The First Report on Priestia aryabhattai SNRUSAC3 and a Newly Isolated Bacillus sp. SNRUSAC1

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The increasing use of polylactic acid (PLA) for single‐use packaging has led to a growing accumulation of bioplastic waste. This study presents a comprehensive approach for enhancing the degradation of postconsumer PLA packaging waste, beginning with the isolation, screening, and identification of highly effective bacteria and culminating in the ...

Isolation and Characterization of a Tributyrin Esterase from Lactobacillus plantarum 2739

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1997
An intracellular tributyrin esterase from Lactobacillus plantarum 2739 was purified to homogeneity by chromatography on DEAE cellulose, Sephacryl 200, carboxymethylcellulose, and Mono Q. The enzyme E2 was separated on DEAE cellulose from a second esterase, E1, and a minor esterase. Additional minor esterases were separated from E2 during chromatography

Tributyrin is more effective than tripropionin in reducing plasma cholesterol in hypercholesterolemic hamsters

open access: yesFood Science and Human Wellness
Propionate and butyrate are proven capable of decreasing plasma cholesterol. However, their undesired odor and unpleasant smell limit their direct application as a dietary supplement.
