Microbial β-Glucosidase: sources, production and applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cellulose is the most abundant biopolymer in biosphere and the major constituent of plant biomass. Cellulose polymer is made up of β-glucose units linked by β-glucosidic bonds. Cellulase is an enzymatic system that catalyzes the hydrolysis of cellulose

Biological Flora of Britain and Ireland: Cytisus scoparius*

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 7, Page 1877-1933, July 2025.
Broom is an attractive and common native plant across Britain, Ireland and most of Europe, and yet it is considered a harmful and invasive weed around the rest of the world. This is aided by broom thriving on poor dry soils, helped by using green stems for photosynthesis and having root nodules to fix nitrogen.

Control of common scab without the use of water [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The most effective way to control common scab is by irrigating a potato crop at tuber initiation. With the introduction of legislation such as the Water Framework Directive this will become increasingly difficult.

Comparative evaluation of cellulase activity in Trichoderma harzianum and Trichoderma reesei

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Microbiology Research, 2014
Cellulase activity of two promising species of Trichoderma harzianum and Trichoderma reesei were assessed for agro-industrially important cellulase (E.C.3.2.1.4) production. Both species were used for media optimization studies and effect of pH, temperatures and incubation periods on cellulase activity.

A steric gate prevents mutagenic dATP incorporation opposite 8‐oxo‐deoxyguanosine in mitochondrial DNA polymerases

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 292, Issue 13, Page 3430-3448, July 2025.
Reactive oxygen species induce mutagenic DNA lesions, such as 8‐oxo‐2′‐deoxyguanosine (8‐oxodG), which acts as a template for dCMP and dAMP incorporation through its anti and syn conformations. Specific residues must regulate the fidelity of templated 8‐oxodG.

Induction of chitinases and glucanases in Trichoderma spp. strains intended for biological control

open access: yesBiotecnología Aplicada
Use of fungi of the Trichoderma genus for the biological control of pests and diseases is based, to a large extent, on their secretion of hydrolytic enzymes.

Biocontrol Potential of Trichoderma Ghanense and Trichoderma Citrinoviride toward Pythium aphanidermatum

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
Pythium-induced damping-off of cucumber is a major constraint to cucumber production in different parts of the world. Although chemical fungicides are used for managing this disease, they have many drawbacks to the environment. The ability of the antagonistic fungi isolated from the rhizosphere and endosphere of Dactyloctenium robecchii and Moraea ...

Expression of mannanase and glucanases in lettuce chloroplasts and functional evaluation of enzyme cocktail against Candida albicans in oral cancer patient samples

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 7, Page 2689-2703, July 2025.
Transplastomic expression of mannanase in lettuce and tobacco chloroplasts and inhibition of Candida albicans from oral cancer patient samples by plant enzyme cocktail. Summary Candida albicans is a human pathogen responsible for several diseases. C. albicans cell wall contains chitin, glucan and mannan.

Alliance Between Conifer Trees and Endophytic Fungi Against Insect Defoliators

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 7, Page 5236-5249, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Fungal endophytes can alter plant resistance against herbivores by indirectly influencing plant secondary metabolism or through direct effects of their own metabolism. However, the role of fungal endophytes in conifer defences to insect herbivores remains largely unknown.
