N‐Heterocyclic Carbenes and N‐Heterocycles as Synthetic Reagents and Building Blocks

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 31, Issue 12, February 25, 2025.
N‐heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have widespread applications in synthesis as organocatalysts or ligands for organometallic complexes. This Mini‐review article focuses on an important but often neglected area of their chemistry, where NHCs and their N‐heterocyclic precursors or derivatives have been used as stoichiometric reagents or building blocks in ...

Recent Applications of Sulfonium Salts in Synthesis and Catalysis

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 70, December 13, 2024.
This review summarizes the recent developments on the synthetic applications of sulfonium salts with an emphasis on the description of the operating mechanistic pathways. Abstract The use of sulfonium salts in organic synthesis has experienced a dramatic increase during the last years that can arguably be attributed to three main factors; the ...

Pioneering Metal‐Free Late‐Stage C−H Functionalization Using Acridinium Salt Photocatalysis

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 67, December 2, 2024.
Organic dyes are powerful photocatalysts in organic transformations due to their availability, adaptable absorption, and diverse structures. Acridinium‐based organo‐photocatalysts, notable for visible light responsiveness, efficiently functionalize inert C−H bonds under mild conditions without transition metals.

Vicinal Difunctionalization of Unactivated Alkenes Through Radical Addition/Remote (Hetero)Aryl Migration Cascade

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 27, Issue 43, November 18, 2024.
The vicinal (hetero)aryl functionalization of unactivated alkenes through radical addition of a functional group followed by remote (hetero)aryl migration provides a valuable tactic to install an aromatic ring at a specific position. The migratory (hetero)aromatic ring can be initially tethered to either the alkene or the radical precursor. This review

Synthetic Strategies and Applications of Fluorine‐Containing Bridged Bicyclic Compounds

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 27, Issue 43, November 18, 2024.
This Concept aims to highlight the recent advancements in the synthesis of fluorine‐containing bridged bicyclic compounds (BBCs). The synthetic strategies have been categorized based on the position of functionalization (i. e. bridge or bridgehead), as well as in the type of F‐containing motif introduced in the bicyclic core.

Synthesis of Fluorinated Spiroindolenines by Transition Metal‐Catalyzed Indole Dearomatizations

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 366, Issue 20, Page 4244-4252, October 25, 2024.
Abstract A strategy to access fluorinated spiroindolenines has been developed, involving a selective functionalization of indoles with fluorinated moieties and subsequent catalytic dearomatization. Trifluomethylthio (SCF3), diethyl phosphono(difluoromethyl)thio (SCF2P(O)(OEt)2) and (phenylsulfonyl)difluoromethyl (CF2SO2Ph) groups were embedded at the ...

Photocatalyzed Cascade Hydrogen Atom Transfers for Assembly of Multi‐Substituted α‐SCF3 and α‐SCF2H Cyclopentanones

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 136, Issue 34, August 19, 2024.
A photocatalyzed (3+2) cycloaddition has been developed for the synthesis of multi‐substituted α‐SCF3 and α‐SCF2H cyclopentanones. The strengths are multiple including green aspects (atom‐economy, photocatalysis, continuous microflow synthesis). Each step of the reaction mechanism was deciphered by DFT calculations.
