Calcitonin gene‐related peptide concentration in cerebrospinal fluid and serum in horses affected by trigeminal‐mediated headshaking

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Trigeminal‐mediated headshaking (TMHS) in horses shares clinical features with human trigeminal neuralgia (HTN). Increased levels of the neuropeptide calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP) have been found in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of HTN patients. Inhibition of CGRP in humans has shown promise for pain relief.

Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy Impairs Tertiary Dentine Formation: An In Vivo Study

open access: yesInternational Dental Journal
Introduction and aims: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common and well-documented adverse effect of chemotherapy, primarily targeting sensory nerves. Sensory nerves play a crucial role in the repair of dentine-pulp complex injuries.

Could an endoneurial endothelial crosstalk between Wnt/β-catenin and Sonic Hedgehog pathways underlie the early disruption of the infra-orbital blood-nerve barrier following chronic constriction injury? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BackgroundBlood–nerve barrier disruption is pivotal in the development of neuroinflammation, peripheral sensitization, and neuropathic pain after peripheral nerve injury.

Understanding the Symptom Burden of Complex Skull Base Tumors From the Patient's Perspective

open access: yesHead &Neck, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Symptom burden of skull base tumor (SBT) patients, especially those undergoing multimodality treatment, is poorly understood. We aim to understand symptom burden in this patient group using the core module the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory (MDASI).

The homuncular jigsaw: investigations of phantom limb and body awareness following brachial plexus block or avulsion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Many neuropsychological theories agree that the brain maintains a relatively persistent representation of one's own body, as indicated by vivid "phantom" experiences.

Neural regulation of mesenchymal stem cells in craniofacial bone: development, homeostasis and repair

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
Mesenchymal stem cells endow various functions, including proliferation, multipotency, migration, etc. Craniofacial bones originate from the cranial neural crest and are developed mainly through intramembranous ossification, which are different from long

Nasal Air‐Jet Sensitivity Differentiates Empty Nose Syndrome and Turbinate Reduction Patients: A Pilot Study

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This prospective pilot study aims to compare nasal mucosal sensitivity to air‐jet stimuli between ENS patients and patients who underwent septoplasty/turbinate reduction (septo‐turb) surgery, but without ENS symptoms. The ENS group had a significantly higher (less sensitive) threshold than the septo‐turb group for the septum opposing the center of the ...
