ABSTRACT Indoor vertical farming (VF) offers practical advantages for the cultivation of plant protein bio‐factories including plant uniformity, product consistency, water/nutrient recycling and production cycles on a year‐round basis. Much progress has been achieved toward the development of innovative systems for artificial lighting, automated ...

Intra‐annual radial growth of beech and spruce in 2021 and 2022. Summary The oxygen (δ18O) and hydrogen (δ2H) isotope compositions of leaf and xylem water shape tree‐ring isotope baselines, while the fraction of sugars undergoing isotopic modification downstream of leaves (fO, fH) determines the dominant hydrologic signal.

Significant Statement This study identifies LaTMT2, a Golgi‐localized N‐methyltransferase, and three reversible aldo–keto reductases (LaAKR1 and LaAKR3) as key enzymes coordinating the dual terminal routes of galanthamine biosynthesis in Leucojum aestivum.

Multifaceted roles of metabolic enzymes of the Paracoccidioides species complex
Paracoccidioides species are dimorphic fungi, and are the etiologic agents of paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM), a serious disease of multiple organs. The large number of tissues colonized by this fungus suggests the presence of a variety of surface molecules

Erythrocyte lipids in triose-phosphate isomerase deficiency. [PDF]
Marked hypoalphalipoproteinemia was found together with relatively low serum cholesterol, triacylglycerol, and LDL levels in a triose-phosphate isomerase (TPI; D-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate ketol-isomerase, EC 5.3.1.1)-deficient Hungarian family, especially in the two compound-heterozygote brothers.

Significance Statement Life on Earth depends on photosynthetic CO2 fixation via the Calvin–Benson–Bassham cycle to form organic carbon. This process evolved first in cyanobacteria and was later conveyed to eukaryotes, giving rise to plastids in algae and plants. To cope with low atmospheric CO2 concentrations that developed over the course of evolution,

The return of metabolism: biochemistry and physiology of glycolysis
ABSTRACT Glycolysis is a fundamental metabolic pathway central to the bioenergetics and physiology of virtually all living organisms. In this comprehensive review, we explore the intricate biochemical principles and evolutionary origins of glycolytic pathways, from the classical Embden–Meyerhof–Parnas (EMP) pathway in humans to various prokaryotic and ...

The pathophysiology of triose phosphate isomerase dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease.
Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most prevalent neurodegenerative disease worldwide, has two main hallmarks: extracellular deposits of amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles composed by tau protein. Most AD cases are sporadic and are not dependent on known genetic causes; aging is the major risk factor for AD.
