Formaldehyde as an Acceptor Aldehyde for Transketolase, and the Biosynthesis of Triose [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1958
THE enzyme transketolase is biologically widely distributed, and, in presence of thiamine pyrophosphate and magnesium ions, transfers the ketol group or ‘active glycolaldehyde’ (CH2OH.CO…H) from a variety of ketose phosphates (sedoheptulose 7-phosphate, D-fructose 6-phosphate, D-xylulose 5-phosphate), from certain free ketoses (L-erythrulose, D ...

Sn-Beta zeolites with borate salts catalyse the epimerization of carbohydrates via an intramolecular carbon shift [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Carbohydrate epimerization is an essential technology for the widespread production of rare sugars. In contrast to other enzymes, most epimerases are only active on sugars substituted with phosphate or nucleotide groups, thus drastically restricting ...

Contribution of protein domains to the activities of the human enzyme and molecular dynamics simulation of domain movements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Mammalian triokinase, which phosphorylates exogenous dihydroxyacetone and fructose-derived glyceraldehyde, is neither molecularly identified nor firmly associated to an encoding gene.

Studies on the fructose metabolism in animal tissues [PDF]

open access: yes, 1959
An improved chromatographic method for the analysis of sugar phosphates and nucleotides presented in the previous paper was applied on the analysis of the metabolites of fructose produced by the action of hexokinase in some tissues in vitro, and the ...

Raman Bands of Malto‐ and Isomalto‐Oligosaccharides as Models for Starch

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
The present study measured Raman spectra of malto‐ and isomalto‐oligosaccharides with various degree of polymerization as models for starch. The data suggest that malto‐oligosaccharides with degree of polymerization ≥ 5 exhibit Raman bands similar to those of starch.

Chemical Synthesis of Lactic Acid from Lignocellulosic Compouds Catalysed by Pb(II) or Al(III)-Sn(II) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015

Appropriate parboiling steaming time at atmospheric pressure and variety to produce rice with weak digestive properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Consumers with diabetes mellitus have shown interest in products with low postprandial glucose. To produce rice for this group of consumers, the effect of parboiling steaming time (0, 5, 15, 25, 35, and 45 min) and variety (NERICA1, NERICA7, WITA4, and ...

On the Origin of the Brain Semi‐Heavy Water Deuterium MR Signal Following Administration of Deuterated Metabolic Substrate: A Cautionary Tale

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose To evaluate the extent to which the appearance of HOD in the brain following systemic administration of a deuterated substrate is due to local brain metabolism versus body metabolism. Methods [6,6‐2H2]glucose, which is transported across the blood‐brain barrier (BBB), and [6,6‐2H2]fructose (Fruc), which does not cross the BBB, were ...

Ligand‐specific tuning of CLEC10A signalling strength and dendritic cell responses through engagement of different GalNAc‐containing glycan structures

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
The authors investigated the effects of various glycan ligands for CLEC10A, a lectin receptor expressed on dendritic cells (DCs). Monocyte‐derived DCs were stimulated with glycan‐conjugated dendrimers in combination with the TLR1/2 ligand Pam3CysK4, and responses were investigated at the mRNA and protein level.
