Synthesis of a novel polyester building block from pentoses by tin-containing silicates [PDF]
C5-Sugars form a new bio-monomer (trans-2,5-dihydroxy-3-pentenoic acid methyl ester), which can undergo enzymatic copolymerization with E6-HH to form multifunctional polymers.

Schematic representation of the causal sequence through which rapid water loss imposes diffusive and nondiffusive restrictions on carbon assimilation. Summary Drought is an abnormally prolonged water deficit posing major challenges to plants. Stomatal closure has long been considered the primary factor limiting photosynthesis during the early stages of

Intra‐annual radial growth of beech and spruce in 2021 and 2022. Summary The oxygen (δ18O) and hydrogen (δ2H) isotope compositions of leaf and xylem water shape tree‐ring isotope baselines, while the fraction of sugars undergoing isotopic modification downstream of leaves (fO, fH) determines the dominant hydrologic signal.

Studies on the sub-units of triose phosphate isomerase [PDF]
The sub-unit structure of rabbit muscle triose phosphate isomerase was studied by determination of the number of unique cysteine peptides. Alkylation of the thiol groups with radioactive iodoacetate in the presence of guanidine hydrochloride gave the S-carboxy[14C]methyl derivative of the protein.

Compartmentation of glycogen metabolism revealed from 13C isotopologue distributions [PDF]
Background Stable isotope tracers are used to assess metabolic flux profiles in living cells. The existing methods of measurement average out the isotopic isomer distribution in metabolites throughout the cell, whereas the knowledge of ...

Summary Metabolic engineering of vegetative tissues for lipid production holds transformative potential for sustainable biofuels, yet achieving sufficient yields remains challenging. Here, we present a strategy to enhance fatty acid synthesis by redirecting cytosolic phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) into plastids through overexpression of the plastidial ...

Stopped-flow measurement of reaction rate of triose reductone with 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol and its application to the determination of triose reductone. [PDF]
The reduction of 2, 6-dichlorophenolindophenol by triose reductone was studied in a wide pH range (pH 2~11), using a stopped-flow apparatus. The apparent first-order rate constant, kapp, and the second-order rate constant, k, were obtained. The k-pH profile resembles that of l-ascorbic acid, though the rate of l-ascorbic acid is considerably larger ...

Global phenotypic and genomic comparison of two Saccharomyces cerevisiae wine strains reveals a novel role of the sulfur assimilation pathway in adaptation at low temperature fermentations [PDF]
[Background] The wine industry needs better-adapted yeasts to grow at low temperature because it is interested in fermenting at low temperature to improve wine aroma. Elucidating the response to cold in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is of paramount importance
