True random number generators (TRNGs) are needed for a variety of security applications and protocols. The quality (randomness) of TRNGs depends on sensitivity to random noise, environmental conditions, and aging. Random sources of noise improve TRNG quality.

A TRNG exploiting multi-source physical data
Proceedings of the 6th ACM workshop on QoS and security for wireless and mobile networks, 2010In recent years, the considerable progress of miniaturization and the consequent increase of the efficiency of digital circuits has allowed a great diffusion of the wireless sensor network technology. This has led to the growth of applications and protocols for applying these networks to several scenarios, such as the military one, where it is ...

Security primitives (PUF and TRNG) with STT-MRAM
2016 IEEE 34th VLSI Test Symposium (VTS), 2016The rapid development of low power, high density, high performance SoCs has pushed the embedded memories to their limits and opened the field to the development of emerging memory technologies. The Spin-Transfer-Torque Magnetic Random Access Memory (STT-MRAM) has emerged as a promising choice for embedded memories due to its reduced read/write latency ...

A Quantum Photonic TRNG based on Quaternary Logic
2020 IEEE 50th International Symposium on Multiple-Valued Logic (ISMVL), 2020An architecture for a quantum photonic true random number generator (TRNG) that takes advantage of higher-radix encoding schemes is presented. The TRNG is based upon two statistically independent sources of entropy: generated photon sequences at randomly distributed time intervals and the measurement of radix-4 superimposed quantum states.

Lightweight TRNG Based on Multiphase Timing of Bistables
IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Regular Papers, 2016The paper presents a concept of a True Random Number Generator (TRNG) that utilizes phase noise of a pair of ring oscillators (ROs) to increase the variance of the initial condition of a bistable. For this purpose a special TRNG D-latch architecture (TDL) has been proposed, which can either operate in the oscillatory ring-oscillator mode or the nearly ...

Random number visualization using the TRNG
2015 Second International Conference on Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Social Media (CSCESM), 2015There are not a lot of artworks which touches on randomization. Artists such as Jackson Pollock, Karl Sim, and Gregory Volk tried to reach true randomness in their artworks. However, In this paper, I will evaluate why those artists failed to achieve randomness and create artworks using the random number generator in order to reach the true randomness.

A Dynamic Equilibrium Algorithm to Enhance Randomness in TRNG
Journal of Circuits, Systems and Computers, 2018In this paper, a new method is proposed for randomness enhancement. The approach is called the dynamic equilibrium algorithm (DEA). It is used to solve the problems existing in the true random number generator (TRNG). First, the advantages and defects of LFSR as a post-processing module are discussed. When sampling 1000 groups of data, only 517 groups

Bias in the Mifare DESFire EV1 TRNG
2017The limited computational capabilities of low-cost RFID cards may induce security weaknesses stemming from concessions made in hardware. In particular, RFID cards with weak pseudo-random number generators (PRNGs) can leak secret information. Current generation RFID cards, such as the Mifare DESFire EV1, improve on the cryptographic and random number ...

MCT-TRNG: Multi-Channel Tetrahedral TRNG via Metastability-Enhanced Entropy with 2.2 Gbps Throughput
ACM Transactions on Reconfigurable Technology and SystemsTrue random number generators (TRNGs) extract randomness from physical phenomena to produce inherently unpredictable bitstreams. Owing to their strong cryptographic properties, TRNGs are fundamental components for establishing trusted roots in secure systems.

Enhanced TRNG based on the coherent sampling
2009 3rd International Conference on Signals, Circuits and Systems (SCS), 2009The paper presents several modifications of the True Random Number Generator proposed by Kohlbrenner and Gaj in 2004. The generator is based on a coherent sampling principle and it is aimed at cryptographic applications. It uses the timing jitter present in two clock signals with close frequencies as entropy source.
