True random number generators (TRNGs) are needed for a variety of security applications and protocols. The quality (randomness) of TRNGs depends on sensitivity to random noise, environmental conditions, and aging. Random sources of noise improve TRNG quality.

2012 IEEE 18th International On-Line Testing Symposium (IOLTS), 2012
True random number generators (TRNGs) are used for cryptographic operations. By the use of TRNGs secret keys can be generated and the design can be made robust against attacks. In order to simplify further attacks the adversary tries to introduce some bias in the probability distribution of the TRNG output. A possibility to detect such attacks is shown

A TRNG exploiting multi-source physical data
Proceedings of the 6th ACM workshop on QoS and security for wireless and mobile networks, 2010In recent years, the considerable progress of miniaturization and the consequent increase of the efficiency of digital circuits has allowed a great diffusion of the wireless sensor network technology. This has led to the growth of applications and protocols for applying these networks to several scenarios, such as the military one, where it is ...

FPGA based TRNG using automatic calibration
2009 IEEE 5th International Conference on Intelligent Computer Communication and Processing, 2009This paper presents a new method to improve the quality of True Random Number Generators implemented on Field Programmable Gate Arrays. Traditionally implementations require an exact manual calibration to achieve the best performance. In this paper we are suggesting a method which uses modern clocking features to perform automatic calibration.

Metastability-Induced TRNG Architecture on FPGA
Iranian Journal of Science and Technology, Transactions of Electrical Engineering, 2019Due to the emerging high-speed digital infrastructure, the protection of data being shared throughout the open networks has been a challenging task. By large, the dependency on cryptographic primitives exists to encounter cyberspace challenges. Key generation is a core process of any cryptographic application which improvises the strength of the ...

Security primitives (PUF and TRNG) with STT-MRAM
2016 IEEE 34th VLSI Test Symposium (VTS), 2016The rapid development of low power, high density, high performance SoCs has pushed the embedded memories to their limits and opened the field to the development of emerging memory technologies. The Spin-Transfer-Torque Magnetic Random Access Memory (STT-MRAM) has emerged as a promising choice for embedded memories due to its reduced read/write latency ...
