Thermal study of solar parabolic trough concentrator

Parabolic trough power plants are a promising option to produce electricity from renewable energy sources and for supplying steam to industrial processes. In this paper a parabolic trough concentrator with aperture area of 10.8 m2 was designed, manufactured and evaluated in the Research and Technology Center of Energy (CRTEn) in Tunisia.

Optics of a two-trough solar concentrator

A linear focusing solar concentrator is described that uses two reflecting troughs, one is a large, stationary hemi-cylinder and the other is small and tracks the sun. The small reflector weighs less than a parabolic trough with the same concentrator aperture therefore diurnal steering is more feasible.
