Geographical Variation in Thermal Adaptation of the Asiatic Toad (Bufo gargarizans)

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Northern and southern populations of Bufo gargarizans exhibit coordinated divergence in thermal preference, resting metabolic rate, and TRPM4 temperature sensitivity along a climatic gradient. ABSTRACT Thermal adaptation in animals can manifest in multiple dimensions, yet few studies have integrated behavioral, physiological, and molecular perspectives

Activation of central and peripheral transient receptor potential melastatin 8 increases susceptibility to spreading depolarization and facilitates trigeminal neuroinflammation

open access: yesThe Journal of Headache and Pain
Background Transient receptor potential melastatin 8 (TRPM8), a gene encoding a nonselective cation channel responsive to cold stimuli, has been implicated in migraine susceptibility.

Function and Postnatal Changes of Dural Afferent Fibers Expressing TRPM8 Channels

open access: yesMolecular Pain, 2015
Background Genome-wide association studies have identified TRPM8 (transient receptor potential melastatin 8) as one of the susceptibility genes for common migraine.

Therapeutic potential of TRPM8 channels in cancer treatment

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2023
Cancer is a multifactorial process associated with changes in signaling pathways leading to cell cycle variations and gene expression. The transient receptor potential melastatin 8 (TRPM8) channel is a non-selective cation channel expressed in neuronal ...

Cannabigerol reverses mechanical allodynia through α2A‐adrenergic modulation of thalamocortical signaling in chemotherapy‐induced neuropathy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Chemotherapy‐induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a prevalent and treatment‐resistant side effect of platinum‐based chemotherapy, characterised by mechanical allodynia. Cannabigerol (CBG), a non‐psychoactive cannabinoid, has shown antinociceptive potential, but its site and mechanism of action remain unclear.

Pirt functions as an endogenous regulator of TRPM8 [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2013
Pirt is a membrane protein that is specifically expressed in the peripheral nervous system, where it has been shown to increase the sensitivity of the transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 channel and modulate its role in heat pain. The broad expression of Pirt among dorsal root ganglion neurons suggests it may modulate other transient receptor ...

Novel therapeutic targets for chronic visceral pain in gastrointestinal disorders

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Chronic visceral pain imposes a major clinical challenge in gastroenterology and beyond, profoundly impacting patients' quality of life. However, limited understanding of its complex, multifaceted pathophysiology, encompassing both peripheral and central mechanisms, continues to impede the development of effective management strategies.

Peripheral targets for neuropathic pain

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Neuropathic pain represents a significant clinical challenge, with still limited pharmacological approaches to symptomatic relief. This review focuses on molecular targets implicated in neuropathic pain, particularly those involved in peripheral mechanisms. Using the IUPHAR/BPS database of biological targets, their occurrence together with ‘neuropathic

Comparative analysis of TRPM8 gene and COPD markers expression in rat lungs following exposure to cigarette smoke and tobacco aerosol

open access: yesActa Biomedica Scientifica
Background. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) remains a global medical and social problem. The ion channel TRPM8, a cold receptor, is known to be involved in the pathogenesis of the disease.

Persistent in vitro nociceptor hyperexcitability and axonal retraction produced by repeated paclitaxel doses

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Repeated paclitaxel exposure causes long‐lasting nociceptor hyperexcitability and axonal retraction in adult sensory neurons. Using a long‐term primary nociceptor culture, we show that hyperexcitability is mediated by sequential upregulation of NaV1.8, TRPV1, TRPA1, and TRPM8 channels.
