Kinetoplast adaptations in American strains from Trypanosoma vivax

open access: yesMutation Research - Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 2015
The mitochondrion role changes during the digenetic life cycle of African trypanosomes. Owing to the low abundance of glucose in the insect vector (tsetse flies) the parasites are dependent upon a fully functional mitochondrion, capable of performing oxidative phosphorylation.

Potential of entomopathogenic fungi for Glossina austeni control: insights into microbiome alterations and implications on sustainable management of the pest

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 32, Issue 5, Page 1691-1712, October 2025.
Abstract Glossina austeni Newstead (Diptera: Glossinidae) is a competent vector of the trypanosomes causing human African trypanosomiasis and the African animal trypanosomosis. Management of this pest has primarily involved trapping methods, Sterile Insect Technique, and research into vector competence–symbiotic interactions.

New molecular marker for Trypanosoma (Duttonella) vivax identification

open access: yesActa Tropica, 2001
Trypanosoma vivax is a widespread hemoparasite in tropical areas and is pathogenic to ruminant domestic livestock as well as wild ruminants. The accurate identification of parasites in both hosts and vectors is crucial for epidemiological studies and disease control programs. We describe here the development of molecular markers specific for T.

Spiroplasma infection in colonized Glossina fuscipes fuscipes: impact on mass rearing and the sterile insect technique

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 32, Issue 5, Page 1761-1776, October 2025.
Abstract Tsetse flies (Glossina spp.) can vector the parasites (Trypanosoma spp.) that cause the socioeconomically devastating neglected tropical diseases human and animal African trypanosomoses. In addition to this parasite, tsetse can harbor four genera of endosymbiotic bacteria, including Wigglesworthia, Sodalis, Wolbachia, and Spiroplasma, which ...

Primeiro registro de Trypanosoma vivax em bovinos no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil First report of Trypanosoma vixax in bovines in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

Praziquantel in clonorchiasis and opisthorchiasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
A single stool examination revealed pathogenic intestinal parasites in 462 (58%) of 796 vietnamese and cambodian refugees. 56 (7.0%) were infected with Clonorchis sinensis and/or Opisthorchis viverrini. These patients received Praziquantel in a dosage of

New tsetse (Glossina fuscipes fuscipes) genomes generated from wild and laboratory‐reared specimens

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 32, Issue 5, Page 1588-1596, October 2025.
Abstract Tsetse (Glossina spp.) are vectors of African trypanosomes that cause devastating human and animal African trypanosomiases. While much of the research to better understand tsetse genetics and physiology relies on colony‐reared flies, these flies may not represent the genetic diversity found in natural wild populations due to their long‐term ...

BOVINE TRIPANOSOMIASIS IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF FORMOSO DO ARAGUAIA COUNTY, TOCANTINS, BRAZIL (CASE REPORT) TRIPANOSSOMÍASE EM BOVINOS NO MUNICÍPIO DE FORMOSO DO ARAGUAIA, TOCANTINS (relato de caso)

open access: yesCiência Animal Brasileira, 2006
The bovine tripanosomiasis by Trypanosoma vivax was reported for the first time in Brazil by Shaw & Lainson, in 1972, in Pará. Recently it has been reported in several areas of the Pantanal Mato-Grossense Region.

Protective efficacy of isometamidium chloride and diminazene aceturate against natural Trypanosoma brucei, Trypanosoma congolense and Trypanosoma vivax infections in cattle under a suppressed tsetse population in Uganda

open access: yesOnderstepoort Journal of Veterinary Research, 2004
The protective efficacy of isometamidium chloride (ISMM) and diminazene aceturate (DIM) against Trypanosoma brucei, Trypanosoma congolense and Trypanosoma vivax infections in cattle under a suppressed tsetse population was assessed in southeast Uganda.
