The Case of a 40‐Year‐Old Man With New‐Onset Status Epilepticus in the Setting of HIV Infection

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 13, Issue 8, Page 1736-1739, August 2026.
ABSTRACT A 40‐year‐old man from Andhra Pradesh in India, while on regular antiretroviral treatment (ART) for long‐standing HIV infection presented with a 1‐day history of new‐onset status epilepticus. CT and MRI brain showed multifocal cerebral ring lesions, some of which demonstrated characteristic ‘hole‐with‐a‐dot’ sign.

Bilateral SERS‐Microneedle Patch for Co‐Diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus and Tuberculosis Comorbidity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 45, 13 August 2026.
Our study introduced a U@mP@Au‐mediated bilateral SERS‐microneedle patch for analyzing glucose levels from ISF and sensitively detecting TB biomarkers from sputum, respectively. This integrated dual‐analyte detecting platform can be used for co‐diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (DM) and tuberculosis (TB) comorbidity, which was demonstrated in ex vivo ...

Pyruvate Kinase M2 Upregulation Is Associated With Guillain–Barré Syndrome Risk and Immune Dysregulation: Insights From Mendelian Randomization and the Experimental Autoimmune Neuritis Model

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to investigate the potential involvement of pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) in the pathogenesis of Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS). Methods Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was used to evaluate the causal association between PKM2 expression and GBS susceptibility, with mediation analysis performed to explore immune cell‐

Efficacy and Safety of Corticosteroids in Tuberculous Meningitis: Systematic Review, Meta‐Analysis, and Meta‐Regression

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) carries a case fatality rate of up to 50% in resource‐limited settings despite standard anti‐tuberculosis therapy. Adjunctive corticosteroids are widely recommended, yet their effect on mortality and safety across diverse populations remains imprecisely defined.

Upregulation of CREB1 by Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Transcriptionally Activates TREM2 to Promote Macrophage M2 Polarization

open access: yesCell Biochemistry and Function, Volume 44, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), affects approximately 25% of people globally as latent infection (LTBI). Although macrophage CREB activation promotes MTB survival, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study reveals, for the first time, how MTB modulates M2 macrophage polarization through the CREB1/TREM2 ...
