Signaling pathways for transduction of the initial message of the glycocode into cellular responses [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The sugar units of glycan structures store information and establish an alphabet of life. The language of the oligosaccharide coding units is deciphered by receptors such as lectins and the decoded message can be transduced by multiple signaling pathways.

Artificial Intelligence‐Based Body Composition Analysis Reveals Sex‐Specific Prognostic Markers and Their Clinical Value in Gastric Cancer: A Multicenter Study

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study applied AI to quantify multidimensional body composition from CT images in gastric cancer and healthy controls. Distinct sex‐specific patterns and disease‐related alterations were identified and were associated with survival. Higher muscle and fat measures were linked to improved outcomes.

Human dendritic cell activation induced by a permannosylated dendron containing an antigenic GM3-lactone mimetic

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2014
Vaccination strategies based on dendritic cells (DCs) armed with specific tumor antigens have been widely exploited due the properties of these immune cells in coordinating an innate and adaptive response.

Carbohydrate Targets for CAR T Cells in Solid Childhood Cancers

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2018
Application of the CAR targeting strategy in solid tumors is challenged by the need for adequate target antigens. As a consequence of their tissue origin, embryonal cancers can aberrantly express membrane-anchored gangliosides.

SIALYL LEWISx AS A TUMOR-ASSOCIATED CARBOHYDRATE ANTIGEN IN BREAST CANCER

open access: yesThe journal of the Japanese Practical Surgeon Society, 1989
Operative breast cancers were subjected to a serological and immunohistochemical evaluation of sialyl Lewisx antigen as a tumor-associated one, where a new monoclonal antibody CSLEX1 which reacts with sialyl Lewisx antigen was used. Percent positive of sailayl Lewisx in sera of 30 patients with breast cancer was 30%(9/30), which was better than those ...

Chemoenzymatic Syntheses of Tumor‐Associated Carbohydrate Antigen Globo‐H and Stage‐Specific Embryonic Antigen 4 [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis & Catalysis, 2008
AbstractGangliosides have attracted much attention due to their important biological properties. Herein we report the first chemoenzymatic syntheses of two globo series of ganglioside oligosaccharides, Globo‐H 1 and stage‐specific embryonic antigen‐4 (SSEA‐4) 2.

Nanomaterials for Allergy Diagnosis and Treatment: Advances, Opportunities and Translational Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanomaterials offer dual applications in allergy management. For diagnosis, nanomaterials enhance analytical sensitivity and improve detection in specific IgE and functional assays such as the basophil activation test (BAT). For allergen‐specific immunotherapy, nanomaterials enable allergen masking and controlled release, and effectively modulate the ...

Trial watch: Peptide-based vaccines in anticancer therapy

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2018
Peptide-based anticancer vaccination aims at stimulating an immune response against one or multiple tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) following immunization with purified, recombinant or synthetically engineered epitopes.
