Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha is a cytokine with pleiotropic effects on the liver. The predominant hepatic receptor for TNFalpha is TNF receptor-1 (TNFR1). TNFR1 mediates liver injury after ischemia/reperfusion but is also mitogenic during hepatic regeneration.

To assess the role of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) in the appearance of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) in endotoxemia, 4 healthy humans were studied after a bolus intravenous injection of recombinant human TNF (50 micrograms/m2). In addition, 8 healthy chimpanzees were investigated after a bolus intravenous injection of Escherichia coli ...

To investigate whether moxibustion regulates tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (TNFR1), and TNFR2 in the intestinal mucosa and to explore whether moxibustion could be used by means of this mechanism, to repair the intestinal epithelium barrier disruption in Crohn's disease (CD).The CD rat models were established by ...

Ganglioside expression in tissues of mice lacking the tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 [PDF]
This study presents a comparative analysis of gangliosides from lymphoid (spleen and thymus) and other tissues (brain, liver, lung, muscle) of C57BL/6 mice homozygous (-/-) and heterozygous (+/-) for the tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (TNFRp55). Quantitative and qualitative differences in the expression of the lipid-bound N-acetylneuraminic (Neu5Ac ...

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-induced cutaneous necrosis is mediated by TNF receptor 1.
Journal of inflammation, 1997Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) is a central mediator of immune and inflammatory responses. Its activities have been shown to be mediated by two distinct receptors, TNFR1 (p55) and TNFR2 (p75). The cytoplasmic domains of both TNF receptors are unrelated, suggesting that they link to different intracellular signaling pathways.

The Role of Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Type 1 in Orthodontic Tooth Movement
Journal of Dental Research, 2007Orthodontic tooth movement is dependent on osteoclast activity. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α plays an important role, directly or via chemokine release, in osteoclast recruitment and activation. This study aimed to investigate whether the TNF receptor type 1 (p55) influences these events and, consequently, orthodontic tooth ...

Genetic variants in the tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 gene in patients with MS
Neurology, 1999We scanned for all genetic variants in functionally important regions of the tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 gene (TNF-R1) in 100 to 111 MS patients from Olmsted County, MN, and analyzed selected variants for an association with disease course and severity. Ten genetic variants were uncovered.

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) is a recognized pathogenic mediator in a number of chronic and acute inflammatory diseases. Antibodies targeting TNF have significantly improved therapy of chronic inflammatory diseases, in particular rheumatoid arthritis. Despite this success, anti-TNF treatment shows clinical efficacy only in part of the patients and is ...

Modulation of colony-stimulating factor-1 receptors on macrophages by tumor necrosis factor.
The Journal of Immunology, 1989Abstract The effect of murine rTNF-alpha on the binding of human 125I-rCSF-1 to murine thioglycolate-elicited peritoneal exudate macrophages (PEM) was investigated. At 4 degrees C, 125I-CSF-1 binding to PEM was inhibited by preincubation with human rCSF-1, but not by other cytokines.
