Enhancement of bile tolerance in lactococci by Tween 80

The aim of this study is to clarify the effect of Tween 80 on bile tolerance of lactococci.Four out of the six strains of lactococci could grow in broth containing 0.3% bile in the presence of 1% Tween 80, but grew slightly or not at all in the absence of Tween 80.

Immunosuppressive Effects of Tween 80 on Mice

The effects of Tween 80 on the humoral immune response, as measured by the Jerne plaque assay, was determined. Mice treated with Tween 80 showed a significant depression in the number of primary (IgM) plaques without a significant difference in the number of secondary (IgG) plaques.
