Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Modeling of Turbulent Two-Phase Flow based on a Two-Fluid Approach [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied and Computational Mechanics
The paper presents the modeling of two-phase flow in turbulent flow. For this purpose, a two-fluid turbulence model is used. The work can be considered the development of a two-fluid approach to the problem of turbulence, which, unlike Reynolds' approach,

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

A numerical model for withdrawal from a two-layer fluid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper reports the results of several direct numerical simulations of the withdrawal of a two-layer fluid with a finite-thickness interface through a slot in the base of a finite rectangular cavity.

Global well posedness for a two-fluid model

open access: yesDifferential and Integral Equations, 2018
We study a two fluid system which models the motion of a charged fluid with Rayleigh friction, and in the presence of an electro-magnetic field satisfying Maxwell's equations. We study the well-posdness of the system in both space dimensions two and three.

Structure-preserving Spatial Discretization of a Two-Fluid Model

open access: yes2020 59th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2020
We present a structure-preserving spatial discretization method for infinite-dimensional non-linear port-Hamiltonian representations of a commonly used one-dimensional two-phase flow model: the Two-Fluid Model. We introduce the port-Hamiltonian representation of this two-phase flow model and then invoke a mixed-finite-element method to perform a ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Two-dimensional fluid model simulation of bell jar top inductively coupled plasma

open access: yes, 1997
In the present paper, argon (Ar) plasmas in a bell jar inductively coupled plasma (ICP) source are systematically studied over pressures from 5 to 20 mtorr and power inputs from 0.2 to 0.5 kW.
