Optimizing energy flow in advanced microgrids: a prediction-independent two-stage hybrid system approach

open access: yesEnergy Informatics
This paper presents a two-stage optimization framework for long-term energy management in microgrids, aiming to efficiently integrate various energy sources, storage systems, and consumption elements while addressing uncertainties in load demand and ...

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Quasi-single-stage optimization for permanent magnet stellarators

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Advanced stellarators are typically optimized in two stages. The plasma equilibrium is optimized first, followed by the design of coils/permanent magnets.

An Aggregated Optimization Model for Multi-Head SMD Placements [PDF]

open access: yes
In this article we propose an aggregate optimization approach by formulating the multi-head SMD placement optimization problem into a mixed integer program (MIP) with the variables based on batches of components.

Analysis and Optimization of Synthetic Aperture Ultrasound Imaging Using the Effective Aperture Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
An effective aperture approach is used as a tool for analysis and parameter optimization of mostly known ultrasound imaging systems - phased array systems, compounding systems and synthetic aperture imaging systems.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

An optimized two stage U-Net approach for segmentation of pancreas and pancreatic tumor

open access: yesMethodsX
The segmentation of pancreas and pancreatic tumor remain a persistent challenge for radiologists. Consequently, it is essential to develop automated segmentation methods to address this task.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
