F9 fimbriae of uropathogenic Escherichia coli are expressed at low temperature and recognise Galβ1-3GlcNAc-containing glycans. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) is the leading causative agent of urinary tract infections (UTI) in the developed world. Among the major virulence factors of UPEC, surface expressed adhesins mediate attachment and tissue tropism.

Antigens Of The Type-2 Fimbriae Of Salmonellae: "Cross-Reacting Material" (Crm) Of Type-1 Fimbriae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 1971
Summary Antisera were prepared against the type-1 fimbriae of three strains of Salmonella paratyphi B and against the type-2 fimbriae of two strains of S. paratyphi B and one strain of S. pullorum. The anti-type-1 and anti-type-2 sera agglutinated fimbriate-phase bacteria possessing either type-1 or type-2 fimbriae.

Characterization of type 1 and mannose-resistant fimbriae of Erwinia spp [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1987
Type 1 fimbriae from Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora and mannose-resistant fimbriae from Erwinia rhapontici were purified and characterized. The type 1 fimbrillin had an apparent molecular weight of 16,500; that of the mannose-resistant fimbrillin was 18,000.

Regulation of poly-GlcNAc expression and fimbriation in uropathogenic "E. coli" [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The transition of planktonic to sessile lifestyles in bacteria rests upon a tightly controlled program that gets triggered by the environmental composition and whose implementation requires multiple feedback controls. Uropathogenic E.

Pellicle receptors for Actinomyces viscosus type 1 fimbriae in vitro [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1989
Actinomyces viscosus T14V-J1 and its fimbria-deficient mutant strain possessing type 1 fimbriae strongly aggregated with latex beads treated with acidic proline-rich protein 1, basic proline-rich proteins, and proline-rich glycoprotein and its deglycosylated derivative.

Modes of evolution in a parasite?host interaction: Dis-entangling factors determining the evolution of regulated fimbriation in E. coli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Escherichia coli expresses type-I fimbriae; these are protrusions from the outer cell wall and have been identified as a virulence factor. They are also expressed by commensal strains of E.

Assembly of a chemically synthesized peptide of Escherichia coli type 1 fimbriae into fimbria-like antigenic structures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1987
Escherichia coli type 1 fimbriae are composed of subunits, each of which comprises 158 amino acids. We synthesized a copy of a 13-residue peptide, located near the NH2 terminus of the fimbrial subunit, that assumed some of the properties of type 1 fimbriae.

The Non-Fimbriate Phenotype Is Predominant among Salmonella enterica Serovar Choleraesuis from Swine and Those Non-Fimbriate Strains Possess Distinct Amino Acid Variations in FimH.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Although most Salmonella serovars are able to infect a range of animal hosts, some have acquired the ability to cause systemic infections of specific hosts.

Application of MLST and Pilus gene sequence comparisons to investigate the population structures of Actinomyces naeslundii and Actinomyces oris [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Actinomyces naeslundii and Actinomyces oris are members of the oral biofilm. Their identification using 16S rRNA sequencing is problematic and better achieved by comparison of metG partial sequences. A.

Difference in the regulation of IL-8 expression induced by uropathogenic E. coli between two kinds of urinary tract epithelial cells

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2009
Bacterial adherence to epithelial cells is a key virulence trait of pathogenic bacteria. The type 1 fimbriae and the P-fimbriae of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) have both been described to be important for the establishment of urinary tract ...
