Searching for hydrogen in Type Ib supernovae, and for helium and hydrogen in Type Ic supernovae [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 2003
Identifying the progenitors of Type Ib and Type Ic supernovae requires knowing, among other things, whether SNe Ib eject hydrogen, and whether SNe Ic eject helium, and perhaps even hydrogen. Recently it has become clear that some SNe Ib do eject hydrogen, and it may be that all SNe Ib do.

Classifications of the Host Galaxies of Supernovae

open access: yes, 2002
Classifications on the DDO system are given for the host galaxies of 177 supernovae (SNe) that have been discovered since 1997 during the course of the Lick Observatory Supernova Search with the Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope.

Multifilter UV to Near-infrared Data-driven Light-curve Templates for Stripped-envelope Supernovae

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
While the spectroscopic classification scheme for stripped-envelope supernovae (SESNe) is clear, and we know that they originate from massive stars that lost some or all of their envelopes of hydrogen and helium, the photometric evolution of classes ...

The Landscape of Collapsar Outflows: Structure, Signatures, and Origins of Einstein Probe Relativistic Supernova Transients

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The Einstein Probe is revolutionizing time-domain astrophysics through the discovery of new classes of X-ray transients associated with broad-line Type Ic supernovae.

The Local Environments of Core-Collapse SNe within Host Galaxies

open access: yes, 2012
We present constraints on core-collapse supernova progenitors through observations of their environments within host galaxies. This is achieved through 2 routes.

Traces of Helium Detected in Type Ic Supernova 2014L

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The absence of helium features in optical spectra is one of the classification criteria for Type Ic supernovae (SNe Ic). However, it is highly debated whether helium is truly absent in ejecta or spectroscopically undetectable in the optical region.

Spectropolarimetry of Core-Collapse Supernovae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We briefly review the young field of spectropolarimetry of core-collapse supernovae (SNe). Spectropolarimetry provides the only direct known probe of early-time supernova (SN) geometry.

Detection of Metal Enrichment by SN 2011jm in NGC 4809

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Cosmic metals are believed to originate from stellar and supernovae (SNe) nucleosynthesis, dispersed into the interstellar medium (ISM) through stellar winds and supernova explosions.
