HIV Nef-mediated Ubiquitination of BCL2: Implications in Autophagy and Apoptosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
Ubiquitination is a process that acts upon every step of the HIV replication cycle. The activity, subcellular localization, and stability of HIV dependency factors as well as negative modulators can be affected by ubiquitination.

Ubiquitination and De-Ubiquitination in the Synthesis of Cow Milk Fat: Reality and Prospects

open access: yesMolecules
Ubiquitination modifications permit the degradation of labelled target proteins with the assistance of proteasomes and lysosomes, which is the main protein degradation pathway in eukaryotic cells.

A Ubiquitin-like Protein Unleashes Ubiquitin Ligases [PDF]

open access: yesCell, 2008
Modification of cullin-RING ubiquitin ligases by the ubiquitin-like molecule Nedd8 promotes substrate ubiquitination. A crystal structure of a cullin modified by Nedd8 recently reported in Cell (Duda et al., 2008) and a biochemical study in Molecular Cell (Saha and Deshaies, 2008) reveal the dramatic impact on the ligase machinery by conjugation of ...

Ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like conjugation systems in trypanosomatids

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Microbiology, 2022
In eukaryotic cells, reversible attachment of ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like modifiers (Ubls) to specific target proteins is conducted by multicomponent systems whose collective actions control protein fate and cell behaviour in precise but complex ways.

ISGylation prevents autophagic degradation of STING and promotes antitumor immunity in lung cancer

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
The STING pathway plays a central role in immune activation; however, STING protein levels decline during the progression of various cancers, including lung cancer, thereby limiting the efficacy of immunotherapies.

Ubiquitination-Linked Phosphorylation of the FANCI S/TQ Cluster Contributes to Activation of the Fanconi Anemia I/D2 Complex

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
Summary: Repair of interstrand crosslinks by the Fanconi anemia (FA) pathway requires both monoubiquitination and de-ubiquitination of the FANCI/FANCD2 (FANCI/D2) complex.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structure and Ubiquitin Binding of the Ubiquitin-interacting Motif [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2003
Ubiquitylation is used to target proteins into a large number of different biological processes including proteasomal degradation, endocytosis, virus budding, and vacuolar protein sorting (Vps). Ubiquitylated proteins are typically recognized using one of several different conserved ubiquitin binding modules.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

PKC-Dependent GlyT1 Ubiquitination Occurs Independent of Phosphorylation: Inespecificity in Lysine Selection for Ubiquitination. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Neurotransmitter transporter ubiquitination is emerging as the main mechanism for endocytosis and sorting of cargo into lysosomes. In this study, we demonstrate PKC-dependent ubiquitination of three different isoforms of the glycine transporter 1 (GlyT1).
