Defect Monitoring of CFRP with Ultrasonic C-Scan Method
Advanced Materials Research, 2011In this study, carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates that were under three-point bending load within and without initial impact damage, were detected and monitored by ultrasonic C-scan method. The defect morphology at various load levels was recorded.

An inexpensive computer-controlled ultrasonic C-scan system
NDT International, 1983Abstract A microcomputer-controlled ultrasonic C-scan system is described with emphasis on interfacing and image formation. Examples are given which illustrate the potential of the system for quantitative C-scanning and image enhancement. The system was assembled from inexpensive off-the-shelf items of equipment.

Evaluation of ultrasonic C-scan attenuation image
IEEE 1991 Ultrasonics Symposium, 2002Temporal averaging and homomorphic processing, which extract the local ultrasonic wavelet and estimate the attenuation coefficient, have been incorporated into C-scan imaging to generate and attenuation map. The variation of this map displays changes in the scattering cross section and in the absorption of materials.

Research of Ultrasonic C-scan Imaging Lateral Resolution
2019 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA), 2019Aiming at the problem of reflective C-scan imaging lateral resolution, this paper proposes to use the right-angle crack reflection method to measure the lateral resolution of ultrasonic transducers. According to the theoretical sound field distribution at the focal plane of the ultrasonic transducer, the corresponding line response function and the ...

Blind image-deconvolution for ultrasonic C-scans
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2001Ultrasonic C-scan images suffer from the problem of gating truncations, blurring due to quantization and squaring distortion, and noise. In this work the H∞ identification strategy is presented to restore the image without any prior information about the distortion and noise, hence the scheme is called blind deconvolution.

Development of a Manipulator Free Mobile Ultrasonic C-Scan System
Key Engineering Materials, 2006Ultrasonic C-scan inspections have been used in various industrial fields. Usually, conventional ultrasonic C-scan systems have several mechanical manipulating axis controlled by a computer or an electronic device. These systems are suitable for the high resolution and inspection quality.

Encoder Positioning Manual Ultrasonic C-Scan Testing Method and Applications
2021To solve the problems that traditional manual inspection results cannot be visualized and automatic detection equipment is complex and non-maneuverable, a manual ultrasonic C-Scan testing method based on encoder positioning is proposed. By analyzing the characteristics of the ultrasonic A-Scan signal, an acquisition method for ultrasonic A-Scan signal ...

C-scan imaging in molten zinc by focused ultrasonic waves
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2000Ultrasonic images of a small steel object immersed in molten zinc at 600 °C are obtained with high spatial resolution using a focused ultrasonic pulse-echo technique. The focused ultrasonic waves are generated by a spherical acoustic lens which has been machined at the probing end of a clad buffer rod.

Screening of Metal Matrix Composites Using Ultrasonic C-Scans
Journal of Composites Technology and Research, 1989Ultrasonic C-scans can be used to find some types of defects in continuous fiber-reinforced metal matrix composites such as boron/aluminum composites. These defects are related to the fatigue behavior and fracture location of each inspected specimen. The C-scan technique determined the relative amount of defects in boron/aluminum composites.

Blind image restoration for ultrasonic C-scan using constrained 2D-HOS
2001 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing. Proceedings (Cat. No.01CH37221), 2002A new approach is presented to use higher order statistics (HOS) to deconvolve the effects of blurring in ultrasonic C-scans. The quantization effects of the mechanical scan-grid and the conversion of the 1D A-scan into one pixel on the image cause blurring.
