A 3D‐Printed SFE‐Graded Alloy Mitigates Cryogenic Discontinuous Plastic Flow and Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel strategy features gradient composition and stacking fault energy‐tuned (CoCrMn)100‐2xFexNix fabricated via in situ alloying additive manufacturing. This design circumvents cryogenic discontinuous plastic flow and hydrogen embrittlement of metallic materials under quasi‐static loading and hydrogen‐rich environment relevant to lunar polar ...

Solidification microstructure characteristics of Cu–Pb alloy by ECP treatment

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2021
The effects of high-density electric current pulse (ECP) treatment on the solidification of Cu–37.4 wt% Pb monotectic alloy melt were investigated. Compared to the method of molten glass purification combined with cyclic superheating, ECP treatment ...

Exploring Influence of MgO/Na2O on Melting Characteristics and Viscosity–Temperature Characteristics of Coal Slags Under Entrained Flow Gasification Condition

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Characteristics of high alkali in Zhundong coal ash may cause ash‐related slag discharge problems at entrained‐flow‐bed (EFB) gasifier. In this study, through exploring melting characteristics and viscosity–temperature characteristics, it is found that MN05, MN14, and MN23 show low FTs (< 1160°C).

Foam Injection Molded Stereocomplex PLA: Processing, Thermal Behavior and Foam Structure

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
The processing of stereocomplex poly(lactic acid) (sc‐PLA) via continuous compounding followed by thermoplastic foam injection molding is investigated. A controlled two‐stage cooling strategy effectively promotes sc‐dominated crystallization of the granulates.

The Growth and Congregation of Minor Phase

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2013
The growth and congregation of minor phase in immiscible Cu-Fe alloys were investigated. Results showed that the Brown motion was strongly affected by the initial number of the separated droplets.

Crystal Morphology of Antarctic Micrometeorites Based on Melting–Cooling Processes During Atmospheric Entry

open access: yesCrystals
Micrometeorites (MMs), which are cosmic dust grains ranging from 10 microns to 2 mm in size, can reach the Earth’s surface through collisions with asteroids or by fragmentation of comets in space. When MMs enter the atmosphere, they are heated to varying

Effect of Sb Addition on the Solidification of Deeply Undercooled Ag-28.1 wt. % Cu Eutectic Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2016
Ag-28.1 wt. % Cu eutectic alloy solidifies in the form of eutectic dendrite at undercooling above 76 K. The remelting and ripening of the original lamellar eutectics result in the formation of the anomalous eutectics in the final microstructure.

Theoretical Models of Decompression-Induced Plagioclase Nucleation and Growth in Hydrated Silica-Rich Melts

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2020
Magma ascending from the storage region toward the surface may crystallize small and rapidly-grown crystals, designated as microlites. Upon decompression, the rapid changes of the microlite textures, such as number density and crystal size, directly ...

Alloy Qualification for Producing Quench and Tempered Plate Steels with Extra‐Heavy Gage

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study develops alloy concepts for ultraheavy steel plates (>100 mm) with ≥690 MPa yield strength. Through dilatometry and Jominy testing, the effects of Mo, Ni, and B on hardenability are quantified. A synergy between 0.5% Mo and 0.5%–1.0% Ni ensures core strength at low cooling rates, while boron microalloying suppresses ferrite and promotes ...
