Detection and quantification of lupus anticoagulants in plasma from heparin treated patients, using addition of polybrene

open access: yesThrombosis Journal, 2006
Background Lupus anticoagulants prolong clotting times in phospholipid-dependent coagulation tests. Lupus Ratio assays are integrated tests for lupus anticoagulants that may be based on APTT, RVVT or dPT clotting times. If a patient is being treated with

Intravenous enoxaparin as alternative ECMO anticoagulation over a period of 94 days: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2023
Background Unfractionated heparin is used worldwide as a standard anticoagulation therapy for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machines. However, its use brings about significant bleeding and thrombotic complications for critically ill patients.

Antithrombotic Therapy in Chronic Total Occlusion Interventions

open access: yesUS Cardiology Review, 2021
Chronic total occlusion (CTO) recanalization is among the most complex subsets of coronary interventions. Hence, optimum peri- and post-procedural anticoagulation and antiplatelet therapy is key for the achievement of successful revascularization and ...

Cangrelor Dosing, Administration, and Clinical Outcomes for Patients Undergoing Complex and High‐Risk Percutaneous Coronary Interventions

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Cangrelor reduces thrombotic events in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), with the advantage of rapid onset and offset. However, premature discontinuation may increase the risk of acute thrombosis for patients undergoing complex/high‐risk PCI (CHIP).

Bivalirudin or Unfractionated Heparin in Acute Coronary Syndromes

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2015
Conflicting evidence exists on the efficacy and safety of bivalirudin administered as part of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with an acute coronary syndrome. We randomly assigned 7213 patients with an acute coronary syndrome for whom PCI was anticipated to receive either bivalirudin or unfractionated heparin.

Basophils in Immunity: Activation Pathways, Roles in Allergy and AllergoOncology and Application of the Basophil Activation Test

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Basophils, the least abundant leukocytes, are increasingly recognised as potent immunomodulators. Upon activation, they rapidly release preformed granule‐associated mediators including histamine and lipid mediators such as LTC4, while cytokine production occurs over a longer timescale, contributing to downstream immune responses.

Initial V‐A ECMO Flow‐Index and Its Association With Inflammation, Organ Failure, and Outcomes

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Higher initial V‐A ECMO flow‐index was associated with greater shock severity and independently associated with multi‐organ failure. Early hemolysis may partly contribute to this association, particularly in eCPR patients, whereas no significant indirect effect through IL‐6 was observed.

Elevated Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time in the Setting of Prophylactic Unfractionated Subcutaneous Heparin Administration

open access: yesAnnals of Internal Medicine: Clinical Cases
Subcutaneous unfractionated heparin, or low–molecular-weight heparin, is commonly used for venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in hospitalized patients at increased risk for developing thrombosis.

Venous Thromboembolism in Hematologic Malignancies: Incidence, Risk Factors, and the Role of Direct Oral Anticoagulants

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Thrombotic events, particularly venous thromboembolism (VTE), are a significant source of morbidity and mortality among patients with hematologic malignancies. These patients face unique challenges due to treatment‐related complications such as thrombocytopenia, coagulopathy, and heightened bleeding risk.

Effect of unfractionated heparin and a low molecular weight heparin (enoxaparin) on coagulant activity of cultured human endothelial cells

open access: yesHaematologica, 2003
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Unfractionated heparin and low molecular weight heparins exert their anticoagulant effect by mobilizing tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) from the vascular endothelium into the blood circulation.
