Encapsulation of doxorubicin in thermosensitive small unilamellar vesicle liposomes

European Journal of Cancer and Clinical Oncology, 1991
The optimisation of the formulation of thermosensitive, doxorubicin-containing small unilamellar liposomes is described. The liposomes were first strictly defined in terms of size distribution and size stability and a quality level was defined. The suspension contained more than 95% vesicles with a maximal diameter of 50 nm and kept this level for a ...

Covalent Immobilization of Unilamellar Liposomes in Gel Beads for Chromatography

Analytical Biochemistry, 1999
For immobilized (proteo)liposome chromatography, unilamellar liposomes were covalently bound within gel beads that had been activated by CNBr, N-hydroxysuccinimide, tresyl, or chloroformate. Liposomes composed of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and 2 mol% of amino-containing lipid (phosphatidylethanolamine-caproylamine) were immobilized in the activated gels ...

Cholesterol stimulation of penetration of unilamellar liposomes by hydrophobic compounds

The Journal of Membrane Biology, 1977
The incorporation of cholesterol into unilamellar liposomes greatly increased the transmembranous movement of hydrophobic ionophores such as nigericin. In reconstituted liposomes containing rhodopsin as the only protein, the presence of cholesterol lowers by 10-fold or more the amount of negericin required to eliminate the light-driven proton gradient.

TLC Characterization of Small Unilamellar Liposomes Containing D-myo-Inositol Derivatives

Biomedical Chromatography, 1996
The thin-layer chromatographic (TLC) behaviour of small unilamellar liposomes containing inositol phosphates (IPs) was studied. The vesicles contained different concentrations of D-myo-inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate (IP3), D-myo-inositol 1,2,6-triphosphate (alpha-trinositol, PP 56, a novel Perstorp Pharma derivative), D-myo-inositol 1,3,4,5-tetraphosphate

Drug encapsulation and release from multilamellar and unilamellar liposomes

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 1992
Abstract The concept of using liposomes as carriers for the delivery of drugs is well established, and the liposomal incorporation of various molecules, including peptides and proteins, has been described. In this study, propranolol (PPL) and atenolol (ATL) were used as model drugs to measure the encapsulation efficiency and release characteristics ...

Solubilization of unilamellar liposomes by amphoteric alkyl betaine surfactants

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 1993
Abstract The mechanisms governing the solubilization of neutral or electrically charged unilamellar liposomes by a series of amphoteric alkyl betaine (Bet) surfactants (alkyl chain lengths C-10, C-12, and C-14) were investigated. In this paper, solubilization was detected as a decrease in light scattering of liposome suspensions.

Freeze-Anneal-Thaw Cycling of Unilamellar Liposomes: Effect on Encapsulation Efficiency

Pharmaceutical Research, 2013
Freeze-thaw cycling is an important processing step in the preparation of liposomes that leads to the encapsulation of drug molecules. There is considerable variability in the number of freeze-thaw cycles reported in the literature. This work is designed to aid in liposomal formulation design by gaining an insight into the drug encapsulation process ...

Preparation and Characterization of Glycolipid-Bearing Multilamellar and Unilamellar Liposomes

2003
The carbohydrate residues of glycosphingolipids were implicated in many biologic processes such as cell-to-cell interactions; and as receptors for some viruses, bacterial and plant toxins, hormones, and so forth, and invariably for all the lectins (1). However, their receptor functions remained poorly defined for a long time as they form micelles even ...

Solubilization of phosphatidylcholine unilamellar liposomes caused by alkyl glucosides

Journal of Surfactants and Detergents, 1998
AbstractSolubilizing alterations caused by a series of alkyl glucosides (alkyl chain lengths ranging from C8 to C12) in phosphatidylcholine (PC) unilamellar liposomes were investigated. Surfactant‐to‐phospholipid molar ratios (Re) and bilayer/aqueous phase partition coefficients (K) were determined by monitoring changes in static light scattering (SLS)

Solubilization of unilamellar liposomes caused by quaternary ammonium surfactants

Journal of Controlled Release, 1995
Abstract The mechanisms governing the solubilization of neutral and electrically charged liposomes by a series of quaternary ammonium surfactants (alkyl chain lengths C-12 (DoTAB), C-14 (TeTAB) and C-16 (HeTAB)) were investigated. Solubilization was detected as a decrease in static light scattering of liposome suspensions.
