First report of an HIV-1 triple recombinant of subtypes B, C and F in Buenos Aires, Argentina

open access: yesRetrovirology, 2006
We describe the genetic diversity of currently transmitted strains of HIV-1 in men who have sex with men (MSM) in Buenos Aires, Argentina between 2000 and 2004.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Current trends of HIV recombination worldwide

open access: yesInfectious Disease Reports, 2013
One of the major characteristics of HIV-1 is its high genetic variability and extensive heterogeneity. This characteristic is due to its molecular traits, which in turn allows it to vary, recombine, and diversify at a high frequency.

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Versatile vector tools for efficient protein screening across multiple expression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A unified vector toolkit enables rapid protein expression screening across E. coli, insect, and mammalian cells. A single primer pair amplifies the target gene, which is inserted into any vector via a standardized interface. This streamlined workflow eliminates repeated cloning steps, accelerating the identification of optimal expression conditions for

[A new unique HIV-1 recombinant form detected in Belarus].

open access: yesVoprosy virusologii, 2012
Republican Research-and-Practical Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, Ministry of Health of Belarus, Minsk The paper presents data on the molecular genetic characteristics of a new HIV-1 recombinant form. The study has shown that the virus is referred to as HIV-1 subtype B in terms of the gag gene and HIV-1 subtype A in terms of the pol and env ...

HIV-1 subtype diversity and transmission strain source among men who have sex with men in Guangxi, China

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
With the rapid increase in HIV prevalence of men who have sex with men (MSM) in recent years and common human migration and travelling across different provinces in China, MSM are now finding it easier to meet each other, which might contribute to local ...

Molecular characterisation of recombinant human pyroglutamyl peptidase (type I) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Pyroglutamyl Peptidase I (PAP1, EC 3.4.19.3) hydrolytically cleaves pyroglutamic acid (pGlu) from the N-terminal of most pGlu-peptides. In higher organisms Thyrothropin Releasing Hormone is a notable biologically active substrate of PAP1. The sequence of

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...
