Trifluoroselenomethionine: A New Unnatural Amino Acid [PDF]

open access: yesChemBioChem, 2016
AbstractTrifluoroselenomethionine (TFSeM), a new unnatural amino acid, was synthesized in seven steps from N‐(tert‐butoxycarbonyl)‐l‐aspartic acid tert‐butyl ester. TFSeM shows enhanced methioninase‐induced cytotoxicity, relative to selenomethionine (SeM), toward HCT‐116 cells derived from human colon cancer.

Gating modules of the AMPA receptor pore domain revealed by unnatural amino acid mutagenesis. [PDF]

open access: yesProc Natl Acad Sci U S A, 2019
Significance Glutamate receptors are membrane proteins that incorporate an ion channel domain. Binding of the neurotransmitter glutamate opens the ion channel, a key event in neurotransmission, but also triggers other dynamic changes in protein structure.

Unnatural amino acid analogues of membrane-active helical peptides with anti-mycobacterial activity and improved stability

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2016
Objectives The emergence of MDR-TB, coupled with shrinking antibiotic pipelines, has increased demands for new antimicrobials with novel mechanisms of action. Antimicrobial peptides have increasingly been explored as promising alternatives to antibiotics,

Unnatural Amino Acid Incorporation into Virus-Like Particles [PDF]

open access: yesBioconjugate Chemistry, 2008
Virus-like particles composed of hepatitis B virus (HBV) or bacteriophage Qβ capsid proteins have been labeled with azide- or alkyne-containing unnatural amino acids by expression in a methionine auxotrophic strain of E. coli.

Metabolism of amino acid amides in Pseudomonas putida ATCC 12633 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The metabolism of the natural amino acid L-valine, the unnatural amino acids D-valine, and D-, L-phenylglycine (D-, L-PG), and the unnatural amino acid amides D-, L-phenylglycine amide (D, L-PG-NH2) and L-valine amide (L-Val-NH2) was studied in ...

An engineered Tetrahymena tRNA(Gln) for in vivo incorporation of unnatural amino acids into proteins by nonsense suppression [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A new tRNA, THG73, has been designed and evaluated as a vehicle for incorporating unnatural amino acids site-specifically into proteins expressed in vivo using the stop codon suppression technique.
