Structural and Conformational Studies on Carboxamides of 5,6-Diaminouracils—Precursors of Biologically Active Xanthine Derivatives

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
8-Arylethynylxanthine derivatives are potent, selective adenosine A2A receptor antagonists, which represent (potential) therapeutics for Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s dementia, and the immunotherapy of cancer.

Alterations in brain metabolites in rats with experimental periodontitis: A metabolomic approach

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Periodontitis (PD) is a chronic inflammatory disease with systemic effects. Emerging evidence suggests a link between periodontal inflammation and neurological changes, but the biochemical mechanisms in key brain regions, such as the hippocampus and amygdala, remain unclear.

Identification of Natural and Artificial Modifications in DNA at the Nanometer Level

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Short single‐ and double‐stranded DNA sequences with natural and artificial markers are examined at ambient conditions using TERS to identify and localize the labelled nucleobases. The differences between single‐ and double‐stranded DNA should provide clear experimental evidence of the extreme surface sensitivity of TERS.

Synthesis of Cyclobutane Analogue 4: Preparation of Purine and Pyrimidine Carbocyclic Nucleoside Derivatives

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
The coupling of 2-bromo-3-benzoyloxycyclobutanone with purine under basic conditions produces two regioisomers consisting of the N-7 and N-9 alkylated products in equal amounts in their racemic forms.

Salt‐induced nutritional and metabolic shifts in halophytes: implications for food security

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Plant species vary in their response to salinity: some crops show a degree of salt tolerance, while halophytes – whether wild or cultivated – are characterized by a high capacity to thrive under saline conditions. Halophytes are considered a source of valuable secondary metabolites with potential economic value, yet they might also produce ...

Poly(O‐Propargyl‐N‐Amino Carbamate), a Reactive Polymer to Underpin Biomedical Applications of Poly(acetylene)s

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
We report here a new methodology to prepare functional poly(acetylene)s under aqueous conditions. This methodology is underpinned by poly(O‐propargyl‐N‐amino carbamate) (P1), a reactive poly(acetylene) carrying acyl hydrazines. Thus, P1 reacts with aldehydes to give functional poly(acetylene)s, including cationic, hydrophobic, and sugar‐loaded poly ...

Synthesis of some novel annulated pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines via stereoselective intramolecular hetero Diels–Alder reactions of 1-oxa-1,3-butadienes

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2010
Some novel annulated pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines 6 and 7 were synthesized stereoselectively by intramolecular hetero Diels–Alder reactions involving 1-oxa-1,3-butadienes.

Control of Nucleotide Metabolism and Ribosomal Ribonucleic Acid Synthesis During Nitrogen Starvation of \u3cem\u3eEscherichia coli\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Ribosomal ribonucleic acid (RNA) synthesis and ribonucleoside triphosphate metabolism were studied in cultures of Escherichia coli subjected to starvation for inorganic nitrogen.
