Extension of the B3LYP - Dispersion-Correcting Potential Approach to the Accurate Treatment of both Inter- and Intramolecular Interactions

open access: yes, 2013
We recently showed that dispersion-correcting potentials (DCPs), atom-centered Gaussian-type functions developed for use with B3LYP (J. Phys. Chem. Lett.

The Enzymatic Conversion of Uracil 5-Carboxylic Acid to Uracil and Carbon Dioxide

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1970
The enzymatic decarboxylation of uracil 5-carboxylic acid has been demonstrated. A partially purified enzyme preparation has been obtained from Neurospora crassa which stoichiometrically converts uracil 5-carboxylic acid to uracil and carbon dioxide. No cofactor requirement for uracil 5-carboxylic acid decarboxylase activity was detected.

Tautomerism of uracil probed via IR spectroscopy of singly hydrated uracil. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Tautomerism of the nucleobase uracil is characterized in the gas phase through IR photodissociation spectroscopy of singly hydrated protonated uracil created with tandem mass spectrometric methods in a commercially available Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer.

From the Wobble to Reliable Hypothesis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
A simple explanation for the symmetry and degeneracy of the genetic code has been suggested. An alternative to the wobble hypothesis has been proposed. This hypothesis offers explanations for: i) the difference between thymine and uracil, ii) encoding of tryptophan by only one codon, iii) why E.

Thymine and Uracil Metabolism in the Epidermis*

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1967
As compared with the viable epidermis, the stratum corneum contains very small amounts of both DNA and RNA (1, 2, 3, 4). This decrease in nucleic acid content is correlated with the disappearance of nuclei and ribosomes which occurs at the junction of the granular layer and stratum corneum.

Control of Nucleotide Metabolism and Ribosomal Ribonucleic Acid Synthesis During Nitrogen Starvation of \u3cem\u3eEscherichia coli\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Ribosomal ribonucleic acid (RNA) synthesis and ribonucleoside triphosphate metabolism were studied in cultures of Escherichia coli subjected to starvation for inorganic nitrogen.

Electron Attachment to DNA and RNA Nucleobases: An EOMCC Investigation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We report a benchmark theoretical investigation of both adiabatic and vertical electron affinities of five DNA and RNA nucleobases: adenine, guanine, cytosine, thymine and uracil using state-of-the-art equation of motion coupled cluster (EOMCC) method.
