PANoptosis in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 11, Page 2584-2610, November 2026.
PANoptosis, a combination of three types of programmed cell death, is mediated by a large protein complex called a PANoptosome. In healthy bone marrow hematopoietic cells, PANoptosis is restricted by inhibitory signaling. In MDS, bone marrow cells become sensitive to the PANoptotic stimuli due to the aberrant inactivation of inhibitory signaling or ...

Enteric Fever Presenting With Acute Bilateral Lower Limb Weakness due to Para Infectious Myopathy With Elevated Serum Creatine Kinase: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Parainfectious myopathy is a rare complication of Salmonella infection. We report an immunocompetent young patient presenting with acute bilateral lower limb weakness and markedly elevated creatine kinase. Blood cultures confirmed Salmonella sp. Prompt treatment with meropenem and azithromycin resulted in reducing CK level from 1854 to 240 U/L.

Urate-lowering agents for asymptomatic hyperuricemia in stage 3 – 4 chronic kidney disease: Controversial role of kidney function

open access: yes, 2019
Because the serum uric acid level increases as the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) decreases, hyperuricemia is associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Neuroprotective Strategies and Cell-Based Biomarkers for Manganese-Induced Toxicity in Human Neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) Cells

open access: yesBiomolecules
Manganese (Mn) is an essential heavy metal in the human body, while excess Mn leads to neurotoxicity, as observed in this study, where 100 µM of Mn was administered to the human neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cell model of dopaminergic neurons in ...

Gene‐Guided Therapy in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: An Integrative Review of the Pharmacogenetics of Metformin and Sodium‐Glucose Cotransporter‐2 Inhibitors

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 9, Issue 6, November 2026.
Genetic variation influences the pharmacological response to metformin and SGLT2 inhibitors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Pharmacogenetic biomarkers affecting drug transport, metabolism and target activity contribute to inter‐individual differences in treatment efficacy and adverse effects, supporting the implementation of personalized ...

Ultrasound Findings in Symptomatic HADD of the Hand and Wrist. A Case Series of 37 Patients

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, Volume 54, Issue 9, Page 2163-2176, November/December 2026.
Ultrasound enables accurate diagnosis of hydroxyapatite deposition disease of the hand and wrist in patients with acute, non‐traumatic pain, typically in middle‐aged women. Characteristic calcifications, often in the resorptive phase, support diagnosis, while radiography may confirm findings without the need for advanced imaging.

Reprogramming Native Cryptic Plasmids Enables Antibiotic‐Selection‐Free Urate Degradation by Escherichia coli Nissle 1917

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 11, November 2026.
Reprogramming native cryptic plasmids of Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 enabled antibiotic‐selection‐free and oxygen‐adaptive urate degradation. The engineered strain reduced uric acid levels and alleviated hyperuricemia‐associated renal and inflammatory abnormalities in mice, supporting endogenous plasmid engineering as a strategy for live ...

Urate transport in brush-border membrane of human kidney

open access: yes, 1994
Mechanisms of urate transport were investigated in human renal brush-border membrane vesicles. The imposition of an outwardly directed Cl- gradient, in voltage-clamp and pH-clamp conditions, stimulated [14C]urate uptake.

Adapting an Interprofessional Medication Adherence Program for Gout (IMAP‐Gout): A Theory‐Informed Pre‐Implementation Analysis Using the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rheumatic Diseases, Volume 29, Issue 11, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Adherence rates to urate lowering therapy in gout remain low. Successfully implemented in Switzerland, the Interprofessional Medication Adherence Program (IMAP) supports medication adherence through an ambulatory‐based model of care that includes pharmacists, motivational interviewing, and electronic adherence monitoring. We aimed
