Glycosylation in the thyroid gland : vital aspects of glycoprotein function in thyrocyte physiology and thyroid disorders [PDF]
The key proteins responsible for hormone synthesis in the thyroid are glycosylated. Oligosaccharides strongly affect the function of glycosylated proteins.

Rates of UMP-dependent reduction of the DPN+ associated with Escherichia coli UDP-galactose-4-epimerase at 27 degrees and 0.2 M ionic strength in 0.1 M Tris-HCl buffer, pH 8.5, are reported. The reaction exhibits excellent pseudo-first order behavior when D-glucose is at anomeric equilibrium.

Pyrosequencing-based analysis reveals a novel capsular gene cluster in a KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical isolate identified in Brazil [PDF]
Background: An important virulence factor of Klebsiella pneumoniae is the production of capsular polysaccharide (CPS), a thick mucus layer that allows for evasion of the host's defense and creates a barrier against antibacterial peptides.

Production of α1,3-galactosyltransferase-deficient pigs [PDF]
The enzyme α1,3-galactosyltransferase (α1,3GT or GGTA1) synthesizes α1,3galactose (α1,3Gal) epitopes (Galα1,3Galβ1,4GlcNAc-R), which are the major xenoantigens causing hyperacute rejection in pig-to-human xenotransplantation.

Induced Reoxidation and Reactivation of a Reduced Uridine Diphosphate Galactose-4-epimerase Complex
Abstract An inactive reduced UDP-galactose-4-epimerase complex, which is prepared by reduction with NaBH4 in the presence of substrates and is known to contain DPNH and UDP-hexoses in tightly bound form, is largely reoxidized and partially reactivated in the presence of 0.02 to 0.4 m cyclohexanone or cyclohexanol.
