Clonal Mosaicism of Mitochondrial DNA Heteroplasmy as a Molecular Clock of Aging
Mitochondrial DNA mutations diverge by tissue dynamics across lifespan: dividing tissues accumulate pervasive point mutations via clonal stem‐cell expansion, whereas post‐mitotic tissues harbor clonally expanded large‐scale deletions, both culminating in age‐dependent, threshold‐limited respiratory failure.
